    Intermittent immobilizer malfunction B2799

Since the red immobilizer light goes out when the key goes in, I assume the energizer is working.

    Intermittent immobilizer malfunction B2799

Hi, about once a year over the last 3 years, my immobilizer acts up and my 4runner won't start for about 15 minutes. I'm not sure if it's anything I'm doing or just time lapsing that resolves it. I verified that the flashing red key light goes away when I put in the key even though it's not...

HVAC low side service port cap (2003 V8 limited)

Unfortunately, I have no salvage yards around. I just checked and my wife's 2016 Highlander cap fits the 4Runner, even though the Toyota system says it doesn't. I'll drive 45 minutes to the Toyota dealer and hopefully get a cap that fits.

HVAC low side service port cap (2003 V8 limited)

Hi, I just realized a shop lost my low side HVAC service port cap a few years ago. I bought two different generic R134A sets from Amazon, but neither fit. I can't find a Toyota part number that says it fits when I select my vehicle. Anybody know how to find one? Thanks.

    Silicone around cheap headlights

I've read posts that suggest adding a bead of silicone to cheap "Amazon" headlights, so my assumption was just to caulk around the edges. However, the edges aren't as clearly defined as I has assumed. :) I am not going to separate them.

    Silicone around cheap headlights

For those that put silicone around cheap headlights to try to seal them, can you give some details? I assume it's between the clear polycarbonate and the black frame. Did you fill the entire gap in the places where it's large? Did you do all around or leave the bottom in case it's supposed to...

    Aftermarket HVAC blowers

My second OEM HVAC blower is starting to whine after only 3.5 years in service, so I thought I'd test one of the aftermarket blowers from Amazon. I measured the power consumed on HI, and the difference was substantial. The OEM blower draws 215W, and the $35 Amazon blower draws 116W. The power...

    2003 V8 Oil leaks

Thanks for the reminder. I will try that. I've been leery of the seal swell before it was needed, but now it's time. :)

    2003 V8 Oil leaks

The oil on the bell housing came back in one test drive. I switched to conventional oil and will monitor it over time. It appears that I was nearly a quart low when I changed the oil. I didn't check the dipstick before, but 5qt came out, and I usually put 6qt in. Sent from my SM-G981U using...

    2003 V8 Oil leaks

Hi, I'm curious if anybody else had these leaks and has a thought on where they are coming from. The bottom of the bell housing is fairly wet, and the rear rock guard was pretty oily. Hopefully not the rear main! The timing belt tensioner is coated in oil. I replaced the front crank and cam...

    Stock suspension replacement questions

I lifted the front wheels, and there is no obvious play in the camber direction, but in the toe direction (left/right), I hear a click that is probably coming from the steering rack. Some of the bushings definitely don't look great, and some dust boots are shot.

    Stock suspension replacement questions

Interesting. I flush it fairly regularly with the right fluid, last time being 1.5 years ago. I'll check the level and see if there are any leaks from the steering rack.

    Stock suspension replacement questions

Thanks for the info! I drove a Nissan Rogue for a month, and when I got back in my 4Runner, the steering just feels loose. Especially on windy days, it feels like I have to put more correction against the wind than I should. I watched some videos on replacing the control arms and struts, and...

    Stock suspension replacement questions

Hi, I have a 2003 with original non-XREAS suspension at 220K miles. The front end is a bit loose, and I noticed the rear shocks are leaking. Can anybody tell me what all needs to be replaced, what needs to be inspected (if anything), and recommendations on brands of replacement parts to keep...

5th gen looking plug and play headlights/taillights for '03?

I think you're right that the bodywork curves in to allow the lights to bulge out. I don't really drive much at night, so I was mainly just hoping to update the look of the 4Runner a bit. I'll probably put in some aftermarket lights, but it won't be as big of a change as I was hoping for.
