Switching from 4th gen to 5th gen

I just made the same decision. After chasing too many problems of an old car and corrosion, I needed to move on. We went with a '23 TRD off road premium as well. It's great. The gas mileage isn't fantastic but we have a Prius for our daily driver and I don't own a 4Runner to be good on gas. It's...

    So long old friend

My 2008 Sr5 V6 (bought in 2014 w112k) was starting to give me more issues than I wanted to keep up with. At 220k miles, 100k of which were in the Midwest, rust was becoming a frequent foe. I learned a Dremel and cutoff wheel were part of almost any repair requiring fasteners. I've replaced...

What did you do with your 4runner today?

I joined the club today and snapped a skid plate bolt. I've been hearing some metal rattling in my front end when I hit bumps so I thought maybe my front sway bar or end links might have loosened up after some time. I put bilstein 5100s up front, replaced the sway bushings and replaced the sway...

need help with loud clunk in front end

This was going to be my recommendation as well. Maybe a tie rod? Do you feel anything while driving in a straight line at higher speeds like wobbling, wandering etc?

What did you do with your 4runner today?

I went and got some new tires yesterday. Nitto Terra Grappler G2s in 265/70/17. I thought the size difference would be minuscule but they were immediately noticeable once on my vehicle. Given I only picked them up yesterday, I'm very happy with my choice. The bigger tire gives me a slight bump...

What did you do with your 4runner today?

Spent this past weekend driving the 4runner pretty much clear across the entire state of washington to pick up my first motorcycle. A 2007 yamaha wr250f. I picked up a hitch rack which worked shockingly well for only costing around $100. I have an aftermarket hitch with a 500 lb tongue weight...

    2009 4Runner...headlight questions

I was originally running Sylvania Silver star ultras (whatever their top bulb was) but they rarely ever lasted a year. I bought some LEDs on amazon with a ton of good reviews. Since we have projectors on the 2006-09 models, I assumed they would be good to go. I plugged mine in and have been...

Help Needed - what to fix on front suspension

I'm at 165k and I was having similar such as rattling/clunking over bumps especially off road. It really started to become obvious around 140k. I also had a terrifying wandering issue that would suddenly pull my car to either side completely at random at highway speeds. At first I thought I...

    Diagnosing of Undercarriage Rattle

My first suggestion is cat heat shield, my next would be possibly a loose/stripped/broken bolt on one of your skid plates/belly pans. There are 8 total so having one even a little loose can cause a rattle.

What did you do with your 4runner today?

Finally got around to replacing my front shocks with bilstein 5100 set to the second perch. Also replaced my shock mounts, sway bar bushings and end links. It drives better than it did when I got it (near 100k, currently at 60k) Flat in corners, doesn't dive while braking, doesn't rattle over...

Major repairs after shop did work....

That would scare me. If they can't properly fix your vehicle when you pay them, how can you know if they will do it properly a second time for free? Also, if the guy who actually fixed your car is new, how would they let him screw up so badly? was nobody checking his work? How did abs wires get...

New Rotors & Pads On a 2008 SR5- Difficulty Level?

I am happy with the change. My brakes were pulsating pretty bad and after removing the calipers and much smoother after, it was clear they were very corroded and I had several stuck pistons. The only things I would have done different are as follows. Buy painted calipers. My new calipers...

New Rotors & Pads On a 2008 SR5- Difficulty Level?

Keep in mind things might not go as planned. Corrosion can cause fasteners to rust or freeze. You can strip or break fasteners completely. Be prepared to handle it. A dremel and some cut off wheels have been a lifesaver on many of my repairs. My 4 rotors, calipers and pads took all day due to...

    Steering Wheel Play

The steering column "clack" could be a few things. I've felt this for a while. Some people solved it by tightening the first bolt where the steering shaft comes through the firewall down by the pedals but it sounds like you checked and this wasn't it. Mine wasnt loose either...
