Thump / clunk drive shaft issue

2008 4runner Limited - 2UZ - HAD THUMP - Hydralic shock - Heated the slip joint with an electric heat gun. Thump was eliminated until the grease cooled. This symptom is eliminated easily by removing the grease zerk, driving for a few miles - replacing the grease zerk.

4x4 PSA: Use it or lose it monthly reminder

Additionally ensure the vent lines are connected to your front and center actuators. Moisture seeping in the vent will ruin your actuator and day. The front actuator quit on my off road 4R after repeated on/off cycles during a one day session, of in and out of a river valley, due to electrical...

automatic disconnecting differential actuator - Resistance Check

Opened up the old ADD actuator. Removed the 5 Philips screws and the cover required a hard rap to remove. Unfortunately the gears popped out. Been searching for a link to retime the gears without success. Any links or leads would be appreciated. The unit looks to be in good order except for...

What differentail and transmission fluid are you using? Do you enjot it?

Not certain how I would enjoy transfer case oil. :wtf: Hahaha. I use the TOYOTA brand @ $25 a quart. It has all the chemistry required to lubricate and ensure seals do their job. When you are running off road - serious shyte man - you want the vehicle to perform without lubrication issues...

automatic disconnecting differential actuator - Resistance Check

Attachment provides the information used to identify the problem as the ADD actuator and not the actuator on the transfer case. Initially my thoughts were the Aisin transfer case was shot as the vent hose had rotted off the fitting on the actuator. I did apply 12 Volts to pins 1 &2 of the new...

automatic disconnecting differential actuator - Resistance Check

Have you used the resistance test on the ADD actuator?? Appreciate reading about your experience. Current issue is with the flashing green 4X4 light. I located a resistance test procedure for the 6 pin plug of the ADD actuator. I used this test on the original unit to determine functionality...

What would cause 07 Toyota 4Runner 2WD SR5 check engine + VSC TRAC lights to come on?

Purchasing an inexpensive OBD would provide you with error codes that define the nature of the problem. Couple of hints/possibilities: Gas cap was not tighten correctly. Your exhaust system is leaking. Two easily checked items. To clear the error lights disconnect one battery terminal for a...

Transfer case Switching from 2H to 4H Intermittent

Do believe you are correct on the lights but the problem is the defective actuator. Repair is best handled by an automotive specialist with a lift and required tools for removal of the transfer case. Laying on the floor under the vehicle is not where I want to be. Thanks for the input! Cheers!

Transfer case Switching from 2H to 4H Intermittent

After having the time to research this topic it appears that without a hoist/lift and additional tools the job to replace the FAULTY actuator is best provided by a specialist. All due to a weeping vent hose. Editing three days after the original post. After review of a service manual I tested...

    O2 Sensors -- Replacing on '06 V6

Could be an exhaust leak. Mine was. Took the shop vac and blew the exhaust air into the tail pipe. Leak existed where the headers join the exhaust. Did not repair just allowed this situation to exist as it shuts down all VSCs of the vehicle. Perfect for winter driving. Spin tires, etc.
