Sorry to revive this, but for those Google-ing this issue - or having flashing lights - this is important - the plastic transfer case actuator gear with the 3-contact metal wiper arm, IS REMOVABLE without splitting the transfer case, in 2001-2002 4runners - once removed, you can unbolt the...
Fixed
So, that gear does come out, rather easy - the housing can then be removed, and the rod can be pulled in and out.
I have fixed her, this posting explained what I found to be essentially true :
4wd not engaging in my 2001 4runner
There are some differences in what I did, but she is now...
Ok, that is what I thought - heard a few people say it was normal for 2001-2002 shift on the fly 4runner 4x4's - but made no sense to me as the Tacoma's front that year spin freely. I manually activated the transfer case actuator both ways and can never get it to unlock that front driveshaft...
Question - on the 2001 - 2002 4x4 4runners, with electronic actuators and push button 4x4 on the fly - is the front driveshaft always locked and spinning even when in 2wd? I have verified front wheels are not spinning - so front differential is not engaged - nor does it engage with push button...
Do you have the service manual pages that help you trouble shoot this? They are posted in the YotaTech link above for a 99' - page 18/19 of that post has the diagnostic pages you need for a 2001-2002. I have a similar issue on a 2001 that I'll be working on soon.
I will at some point, yes pics always help - Carfax proves life in Central/Southern AZ and Southern NM (both dry deserts) but you are right - pics needed, I did leave room for front and back undercarriage pics on ad. She also has other goodies not mentioned/pictured - ie. she also has SlyFox's...
Thanks, I'm hoping someone needs a stock rig. She is homely, but reliable, and has had a lot of small things repaired/replaced - exterior window seals, hood and hatch struts, sway bushings and links, all the small stuff that doesn't need to be addressed....but is nice when it is.
Thanks, that is what I was thinking - that little post on the top of the rear shocks would hopefully fit in the pre-existing hole that is used for the shock top currently but not 100% sure.
As the title says - has anyone done this yet - swap for 5th Gen TRD Pro FOX Shocks in their 4th Gen? Thoughts?
Is it as simple as other 5th Gen swaps; ie. increase rear shock top plate diameter and decrease bottom shock bushing size?
Battery powered all the way. Makita 18V high torque 1/2" impact wrench with 5 Ah batteries. I also have their 1/2" lower torque impact wrench - use them monthly.
