I believe you can do it either way, but I wanted to keep it as low profile and sleek as possible. I still haven’t had any issues with mine and the weight has never been an issue. It’s probably just preference, although mounting it on top would definitely be the safer way to go.

I've used these before for the license plate on my Tacoma and they began rusting within a couple months. It doesn't help I live near the ocean. I'll probably just tape off the surrounding area and lightly paint the remaining silver that is exposed.

There's no difference. It's just much more responsive when you press on the pedal.
