I did not...they spoke to a toyota tech guy about the install so maybe that was discussed.

Older thread but just wanted to update...after 10 months, the aftermarket seal my local shop installed on my truck last October started leaking again. Brought it back to them yesterday and they installed new parts today; all Toyota OEM free of charge. Lets hope this holds up.

2001 4wd is rusted to crap...seen one at a salvage yard off a 2wd model...anyone know if they are the same? 4wd vs 2wd? Otherwise, will just take it off and run without the plate...I don't do anything too crazy offroad anyways.

Mind you this is for ONE side...YES...so not so great pricing either. Did get new brake shoes etc too.

Need new bushings for the lower front arms and having my usual shop do the work but was wondering...would it make sense/save time to install new balljoints too? In the process of selling/buying a new house so money is tight and no garage space to do any work myself. Would adding new ball...

Just had this done last week on my 01...my local independent shop charged $580 for seals/bearing/labor....i thought it was pricey but getting too dang cold to work on my truck outside (WI) and i'm in the process of moving so no garage space.

Just to update...4 months and 4k later; still no problems...transmission fluid looks great too and shifts silky smooth...Luck was on my side!

Damn...I'm so following this thread...got pink milkshake two weeks ago but my local mechanic opted to do a full tranny flush (50 qts) as he said there wasn't much contamination in there. 120 miles later (knock on wood), still running great but i'm sure i'll be revisiting this issue again. Good...

3 years ago, I bought my 01 SR5 4x4 with 90k miles for $9000...no rust, new timing belt, and excellent service history....I overpaid but I simply wanted the best...sadly, had some pink milkshake issues this past week...so i guess my point is, you never know what you're gonna get...90k or 300k...

Shop and I did a search on car-parts.com for salvage trannys in the midwest and the cheapest that was grade A was 820...If we could've found one for 400 that was in good shape, I would have been all over that.

Thx for all the promising words...guess I'll just see what happens...850 is pretty steep but I do work with this indy shop all the time (small son/father shop that's been in business for 60+ years) and they've always been more than fair. Gonna stay positive...onward to 2017!
