Here is an update. My battery was sounding a little weak in the cold weather so I had the dealershp replace it last week and low and behold my rear wiper has not made the single swipe on start up since then. I talked to the dealership about what was happening and they hadn't heard of that issue...

The wiper does not wipe with the back window down and I haven't had any issues with my battery going dead.
