Good question I would like to know as well. Did you read the thread about the guy who relocated his antenna to the driver's side forward roof rack mount? The plastic cover comes off and he made a metallic spacer or shim for it by cutting the shape out. No exposed wires, they are all running in the seams and he said it was a much better signal.
My antenna is on the passenger's side forward window. I lose signal if I hit any overpasses. It wasn't factory installed so I know it probably doesn't help you out much. Hopefully this bump will bring this to light and someone will chime in.
BTW I can't tell if you have shadow mica. If so I'm jealous of your 4runner. 2008 4x4 Limited V8 Shadow Mica? I have been looking for one of those for a long time.

I haven't noticed any reception issues. I live in Evergreen but work in Downtown Denver, so my drive sees lots of varying obstacles.
I did mount my antenna under the plastic housing at the front of my roof rack like "Rivalsock" did:

The only reception issues I have is the bridges of the C-470 and I-70 interchange. I do remember when I was installing my sirius/xm tuner, I originally had my antenna near the rearview mirror / nav GPS, but had really bad reception (likely caused by interference from the factory GPS antenna). I moved it to the roof and haven't had any issues.

My Sirius was already installed by the dealership from the previous owner. I live in North Denver (Westminster) and had no issues with reception at all until last Friday's snow storm now I can't get any signal around Westminstser,my house or on US36. I25 and downtown it works great, so I'm thinking it's more of a Sirius issue than me. Thanks for the response.

No problem. Just a quick follow-up for clarification. Do you have a nav unit, thus a GPS antenna (the one that is right underneath the rear view mirror)? If so, are you confusing this for the sirius/xm antenna? I know you probably aren't, but I just was curious. If, like mentioned by "AE1M", your antenna is on the rear exterior, do you have a build up of ice on the antenna or any other obstruction? It's weird it doesn't work in one area but is fine in another area. I've actually taken the bus to work the past few days (last week and today) so I haven't tested it that well. It works fine in Evergreen, however.

4th gen xm antenna is wired from under the passenger seat down the passenger rear sill plate, rear quarter panel and through the tail light mounts up the right weather strip to the rear right roof rack mount.
4th gen SIRIUS mount is under the passenger seat, up the passenger A-pillar to the upper right side of the windshield. it should look like first base of a baseball diamond (sorry but thats the only way i can describe it).
