Hey all,

First time 4runner owner & new to this board. I'm considering doing a Cornfed 3" front 2" rear lilft on my 04 SR5 but have a concern. My wife works for a local body shop & was talking to a someone there that said if you lift it, it will sag in the rear if you have any cargo in the back (luggage, costco shopping, ect..). Is this true? He says he has lifted many 4runner's & seen this happen.

I'm very new to 4runner's, lifting, & owning a 4x4. But I've had him for 1 1/2 yrs and absolutely love it. Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated.

Stock 4 runners sag in the rear when you put weight back there. They can also start to sag after you flex them real good a couple of times. There just weak springs. But as far as a lift, with mine. I dont see any difference in sagging due to wieght then before the lift.

That's exactly the reason I won't lift more in the front when I do it.
Level it out with a lift, throw a little gear in the rear, suddenly it's not so level anymore.

since you dont have xreas (sr5 model) just get the OME kit. They're direct replacement shocks and coils for your 4runner. Much better than any spacer kit and only for a few bucks more it'll out perform the spacer stuff.

With the OME kit, you shouldn't have to worry about sagging either.

If your rear sags, it's because that's what stock rear springs do on Toyotas. Adding a spacer type lift will not affect this in any way, whoever told you so is wrong.

An OME lift kit will give you a better ride and handling than when it was new, but it's $.

I have a few (quite a few) questions for you!
How many inches of lift does the OME kit give you? I need at least 3" in both the front and rear.
How hard is this kit to install by oneself?
How much does the OME kit cost? Where can you buy an OME kit?

since you have the sr5 installation should be a breeze! just have either shop pre assemble it (both are capable - will cost more since they'll have to include the top plate). installation for new non mechanically inclined users will take 6-8 hours. mechanically inclined users will take 1/2 that.

since you're in socal, there's quite a few people here that has done this install. just post up a "wrenchathon" and i'm sure ppl will come and assist you. i've personally done quite a few now so if I have time, i don't mind giving you a hand.

Hmmm....the help is cool and all but---I rent one of those places that do NOT allow any auto repair work on the lot. I was quoted by a 4x4 shop for 2" lift all around with new control arms for approx. 2k....

What shop? Do you remember the specific parts?

welp, the other option is do it at someone's parking lot? driveway? or can it even be done at a public parking lot? I mean what's the worse that can happen? You can say, damn it I'm changing my tires... Can't I do that? ;)

There are plenty of members here that might be able to give you assistance so you can really save the $. Just trying to help ya out by saving a few bucks since lift installs are really easy to do. I'd offer my place but it's a mess from working on my 4runner so it's not happening until I clean out my junk.

UCA's are an option and if you don't plan to do any major offroading I just can't recommend the justification of the cost unless you just gotta have em.

Thanks Good Times!! The price was mostly for the upper control arm.......the new ones that somebody featured on T4R.org in the past.

Money has gotten tight with the holidays coming the next few months so I'll have to wait until next spring before doing this lift. I would like to do the coilover lift but I'm figuring that to dial the coils all the way up to 3" would make for a stiff ride.

I'll bring this issue up again next spring whenever I am ready to install them. Perhaps, someone will have time available or there will be another person in the local area preforming a lift at the same time.

coilovers cranked up to 3" should be no problems. There's quite a few members with coilovers now and they've had great success with their improvement of their ride.

the uca's are option and I will say it's always going to be option as I really don't see a great benefit for the cost. The only concern is dependent on how much rubbing occurs on the tires but that depends on what kind of offset wheels you get.

Perhaps Demello Offroad would do the install. Does he have a shop at his location in Santa Ana? I see that he sells the Camburg and Donahoe coilovers but perhaps he would be willing to install the OME setup as well.

You can use my home garage (Agoura Hills) if it helps. We did my spacer lift in there with ease. I have jack stands, air compressor, lifting equipment and probably most tools.

To answer your question, yes he has a garage at his location in Santa Ana and I'm sure that he would install it if you asked him to. Although he sells camburg and Donahoes, he does tons of work outside of those two setup's. From spacers to solid axle swaps.
