The 2 early models I had kept having overheat problems and the motherboards cooked. I stopped considering the Air after the second died within a year of its purchase. Have they fixed these issues and is frailty still a problem?

Actually, I'll be getting a Mac Mini. Seriously. LOL Yes, I've heard all the arguments about overpriced and all that; but all I can say is that I've purchased 2 of them, a PowerPC 1.5GHz in 2005, and a 1.83GHz C2D in 2006. Both of them still run, neither has had any problems. *shrug*
So this time I'm hauling off and buying the 'server' version - 2.0GHz Core i7 Quad, 8GB RAM, dual hard drives, etc.

Ive been using nothing but mac's for 3 or 4 years now, i think i have 4 or 5 of them, I've fixed all of them up except one i just bought cause i needed a new laptop. i have the bog standard 13" macbook pro, it works great and suits my needs. I really recommend it, and it was like $1100.

I've been holding out for this refresh for almost a year. Originally I heard that the new MBP based off the air platform was due last fall, but nope. Hopefully it will come out soon because I need a new computer. Nothing like taking 2-3x longer to get work done. It's costing me time and money!

Unless you trail a lot I don't see the point of the Air, and even then it doesn't make that much sense.

I have 3rd gen air and I like everything but mac OS. I have win7 64 running on it as well. i also have 2 desktops, one hackintosh on i7-2600K and one win7 with 12Gb Ram i7-2600KCPU 3TB hdd ,running win7 and a couple proliant servers in basement.
I use air for internet surfing 98% of the time.

How do you like that i7-2600k?
Newegg.com makes it sound pretty badass.
I can't justify upgrading yet though, my i7-920 is still blazing OC'd to 3.6 GHZ.

The reason I am thinking of getting a 15" Air / thin Pro is because of the low profile and battery life.
I used to have a 13" pro and loved it but I sold it a few months ago.

Brian, did you ever run into the overheating issues I mentioned above? I may be the exception to the rule, but when I wasn't traveling or doing presentations, mine was the primary office machine I used and it may run for several hours doing some pretty heavy lifting during those non travel days.

i have the current-gen 13" MBAir with 4GB RAM and the 256GB SSD. if they come out with a 15" version i will be sorely tempted to replace it. more screen real estate is a splendid thing. also, an option for more RAM would be excellent—it ran more smoothly on Snow Leopard than it does now on Lion. by contrast, my iMac with 16GB RAM simply hums on Lion.

My 15" Pro from '09 gets pretty hot if I'm doing multiple things. PowerPoint, internet, etc...

Well my 13" 2010 core2duo MBP did not overheat but I have heard about some of the airs overheating.
Btw, I have checked-the-F-out of the more heated threads in /off-topic/
I am really leaning towards a thin 15" Macbook once it gets released.
I will likely wait until it goes on sale at Amazon though.

I'm sure you will, but make sure to keep us posted on when, what, and how happy or unhappy you are with the purchase.
I've never had overheating issues with any of my MBPs, but both Airs fell victim to it, then the motherboards ended up cooking to the point of failure. You know what that means when referenced with a Mac. Time to buy another essentially.
