Which insurance for iPhone?

I think I'm finally about to pull the trigger on a 4S. I'm debating on which insurance to get.

I've had Verizon (Asurion) on my Droid for the past two years, but it is only $5 a month and $50 deductible. Asurion for the iPhone is like $10 a month and $170 per deductible. It covers an unlimited amount of replacements though.

Applecare Plus is $99 for two years, but only covers two replacements in those two years. The deducible is $50, but does not cover loss or theft.

Square trade is also $99 for two years and covers four replacements at $50 per replacement. The do not cover loss or theft either. You have to send your phone off with their plan and then they ship it back to you. So you lose access to your phone for 3-4 days.

Right now I'm leaning towards Applecare Plus. Verizon is pretty much ruled out.

Do y'all even have insurance on your's? I feel like the iPhone is pretty prone to breaking so I'd like to play it safe. Let me know what insurance plan y'all have.

Just raw dog it on the insurance. I would just get a good case.

Never had insurance on any of our iPhones. My wife has dropped her iPhone 4 many times and the phone is still in perfect condition. She did replace the case twice though. Still cheaper than insurance.

I'm trying to find a Lifeproof on Craigslist. I already have a Magpul ordered.

Verizon just seems too expensive.

x2 on the lifeproof case if you dont mind having to use head phones or blue tooth to talk on the phone. i'll stick to the cheaper, albeit bulkier otterbox defender and try not to drop it in the pool.

i'm with the other guys, skip the insurance, @ $180 deducible and at $5 a /mo it wouldn;t take you long to have more into insurance then what you paid for the phone, that's what just happened to me, by the time i paid for insurance for 1.5 years and paid the deductiable i only saved $10 over just buying a new phone that was better then the one i was trying to replace, they won;t allow you to upgrade your phone either in that case, meaning if you things happen like they did to me and your 6 months from the free upgrade date and just lost your phone your wasting that deductiable money by buying a phone that is now 1.5 years old and outdated.....your really better off just putting that monthly insurance payment into an account and saving it in case anythign happens, it would give you alot more power for your money as opposed to having to shell out $179 deductible and only being able to turn around and get $150 for that same phone on the CL..unless you burn through phones quickly i'd always avoid the insurance on phones, it hasn't been awesome for like 5-6 years...it was awesome when there was no deductible.........but stupid kids breaking their phones on purpose cost us that one.

Don't bother with insurance unless you really have a phone breaking problem, which I understand some people do and I used to as well. Just get a good case if you are that way and you should be fine.

If you really don't need the phone right away you might want to wait until the 5 is released (insert 4s release joke here). If you don't like the new 5 you could get a 4s for cheaper.

What droid do you have? I paid 4.99 with my last phone, but when I went with the droid it jumped to something like $6 or $7 with a $100 deductible vs the $50 with the other phone.

I am on my 2nd droid, which is good for 2 years, vs going through 5 LG Dare's in the 2 years prior. I will be getting a 5 when it comes out, so I'm curious too about the best insurance because I will use it, just a matter of when.

I've never bothered with warranty and have had my i4 since launch.

But my experiences with apple support have always been top notch, which goes along with most of what I have read from others. Personally if I needed warranty I would just go right to the source and go with applecare.

As for waiting for the i5, its certainly an option, but its most likely goign to be a late September or October launch. Then you have to be prepared to wait even longer since you probably wont get one at launch. I wouldn't say its not unrealistic to expect to wait until around christmas time, or at least November, to actually get one. Thats quite a while to wait to get a device that we know nothing about, nor when its actually going to be released.

I have Applecare. As long as your phone is not physically damaged or water damaged, there is no deductible. I have gotten more than 2 phones replaced per year for hardware issues with no questions or out of pocket expense. Most important thing is the phone is replaced on the spot. You are never without a phone.

Whatever you do, DO NOT buy the phone from BestBuy and take their black tie protection. I had a horrible experience with it.

iPhone 5 has many rumors surrounding it, but regarding a launch: MOST say October. I still have my 3GS and love it. Getting a little laggy, but still usable without annoying the crap out of me. We know little facts about the iP5, but I don't doubt it will be "better" than the current one (4S).

The problem with the "water" damage is that, this is what happens to most. I inadvertently dropped my iPhone onto a bucket of soaking clothes. The phone wasn't submerged, but did get wet. My speaker no longer works (speaker phone works fine) and the "click" sounds also don't work. I tripped the water sensor (if you look where you plug it in to recharge, the sensor is there. It turn RED when exposed to water) so I'm screwed. Regarding BB: I saw a local news piece where it said that Best Buy's Buy Back programs is a complete ripoff.

Gonna wait until iPhone 5 comes. If its not LEAPS and BOUNDS over the 4S, that's fine by me.

Warranty: I usually don't bother with them unless you are accident prone or beat the crap out of your phones.

Their warranties and buyback programs are both ripoffs. The iphone 5 should be released this summer. I am patiently waiting to upgrade my 4 as well.

My only fear with IP5 is that the antenna(s) is internal. One of the great thing about IP4(S) is the external antenna. Sure it had issues initially but the slight redesign has solved the problem. External antenna equals superior cell reception! And with my work, I need the best reception all the time. This is partly why I will never have a Samsung smartphone!
