I've got an idea. Stop polluting our childrens' minds with violent movies, games, TV shows and music. Otherwise, this is just another "make ourselves feel better (superior)", cliche' black and white public service message.

The very same politicians that demand gun control today are the same ones who have guns at home or carry one to protect oneself. THAT is funny.

There are studies that show violence on TV and video games desensitizes children to violence. But, You're right; in the end it comes down to personal responsibility.

This is obviously a multi-factoral problem. My point was not to offer some kind of magic solution, but to point out the hypocrisy of the people who make movies, TV shows, and music glorifying violence to call for an end to violence.

As someone who has personally witnessed death and gun violence. It's not nearly as cool, sexy, or clean as these scum-bags portray.

Most definitely. Unfortunately, you can't legislate that. Which is exactly why I'd prefer to keep my guns to defend myself against those who may have trouble knowing the difference.

Parents dont discipline your children, re-direct them instead. Do not tell them NO, make it a positive message.

Freedom of speech but dont pray in school and God forbid dont say the pledge of alegance.

We take what we knew as right and wrong and change it to meet the popular opinion.
It is not a far stretch from Men marrying Men and Women marring Women to adults legally marrying or having sex with kids.

We dont know what right and wrong is anymore and even if we did we arnt allowed to paret it to our kids. So yes they grow up to be messed up adults.

The whole point of violence in movies and video games influencing people's actions may not be a given as a whole, but it definitely sways people's thoughts over time, and can lead to action in those who are already susceptible to following the crowd. There can be no question that violent crime has risen on a similar curve to the rise in graphic violence in "entertainment". People follow their heroes and role models, and too often that hero is the guy on the big screen who solves his problems by shooting or beating someone--that can most-certainly desensitize people over years of exposure. Where do you think the proliferation of "attitude" and revenge in today's society comes from? Because that's what's been made "cool" by the entertainment industry. All it takes is the planting of an idea, slowly feeding that over time, and then finding like-minded individuals who encourage the same thoughts, until someone finally DOES take action. Sure, I and most others can watch an "R" movie and NOT go out and beat up someone, but there ARE plenty of weak-minded individuals who will not only align their attitudes with what they see their screen idols do, they will imitate them as well, with dire consequences. For Hollywood to dare speak out against guns and violence is the ultimate in hypocrisy, for they absolutely encourage it, whether they believe it or not.

My feeling is that totally-screwed up individuals will eventually snap at one point, but violent movies/games may accelerate the process/timeframe a little quicker. And when they snap, there just isn't much you can do to prevent them from doing harm to themselves and others.

The bottom line is that it is NOT easy to kill onself and/or others...for you to achieve such goal(s) is a testament to how screw up you are to begin with.

But, at least, from reading it, it seems like enforcement of existing regulations is what is needed, rather than more laws/regulations. And yes, criminal background check do work if done right (aka enough staffing, etc.).

Unfortunately, nothing will prevent a guy with psychiatric issues from snapping. Liberals are equally ignorant to think that it is possible via gun control.

My opinion is that it is not like NRA all of a sudden got its wishes filled and then these tragic murder-suicides happened. Nothing has changed in the past decade(s) in terms of gun control. Yet, just within the recent past or so, we have these mass killings. Why? Why didn't we get these bunched up mass killings 5-10 years ago?

Desert Fox may be extreme in his thinking, but i think that he's a bit right in terms of culture change. It is a blame someone else type culture. There is no resposibility. It is never your fault. (On the Subaru forum, there was a guy who went rather deep river fording and then got water in his Subaru...what did he do? He tried his damnest to blame Subaru for rubber seal failing!) Liberalism has taken over our country. Morals have gone into the sewers. Ethics gone. Dependency on the rise. People just don't give a damn anymore. Your kid is screwed up? Instead of taking matters into your own hands, you wait for someone else to fix it for you...or you blame someone else for your failures.

Copycat killings are on the rise...the world is really screwed up now IMHO.

I do agree the lack of discipline is a major problem. I got my ass beat plenty, and I admit I'm sure I deserved it every time. Hell I can remember being punched in the head when I was 14-16 when the belt quit working. Deserved that too. Probably be in jail or some lowlife if it weren't for it.
