Best Steakhouses in NYC?
My wife and I are going to Manhattan for my brother-in-law's wedding in March. We'll be out there for my birthday so I wanted to go to a good steak restaurant while we are there. I was curious what some of your thoughts are on the different options and what your recommendations might be.
I've been to the original Palm before and I remember it being excellent. However, that was many years ago and from reading some reviews it sounds like they might be resting on their laurels a bit. Plus I wouldn't mind checking out something else. Peter Luger's keeps coming up as one of the best. Luger's is in Brooklyn but we're not opposed to making the trip out there. Any other options that we should consider?

It's so easy to get to Brooklyn from the city...
We did Reynard last month, steaks on the menu but not a steak house. We did a private kitchen tour and they looked incredible. The kitchen itself was out of this world. Super cool..

Try ( Ben & Jack's Steakhouse) if you dont want to travel to Brooklyn. I have been to both Peter Luger and Ben and Jacks and they are very similar. I heard Ben and Jacks used to work at Peter Luger. I personally like the Ben and Jacks more for some reason.
Wolfgang's Steakhouse by Wolfgang Zwiener. I havent tried this yet but heard many good things. This is next on my list.
Another place with a good porter house and very good side dishes ive tried is - www.thecapitalgrille.com. You can get 30% off if you book your reservation through "savored.com" and choose the Wall St location. I went there with my wife last month and the bill was only $80.00 + tip (porter house, 1 apetizer, 2 sides, a glass of wine). Only catch for the 30% off was my reservation is at 9PM.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions. I did see that Zagat report and read a few more online reviews as well. It's always good to hear from people who have first hand experience. It's tough to choose just one restaurant in a city the size of New York.

You cant go wrong at Peter Lugers
btw Smith & Wollensky will probably come up in your search but they are highly over-rated. Stick w/ Peter Lugers and you cant go wrong. ...and for a nite cap, try another Pete ...Pete's Tavern on East 18th. very cool old bar (one of the oldest in nyc).

I'm a former New Yorker (born and raised), and I swear by Peter Luger.
IMO, it's the best steakhouse in the city, and the only steakhouse if you're craving porterhouse.
Get the creamed spinach.

Bobby Van's is overrate IMO, ate there recently. I have heard amazing things about Peter Luger's but still have not eaten there. They are in Brooklyn though.

If the Old Homestead in AC at The Borgata is any indication of the quality of the NYC OH, I would advise you to steer clear.
The Mrs and I were very disappointed I the meal at the OH in The Borgata.

Yup what he said. Ive had Bobby Vans out in the Hamptons, nothing to write home about. Maybe that would be a good excuse to see the Brooklyn Islanders play in 2015 if Lugers is still there.
