I'd bet he isn't the only one. There are crazy, rich team owners across the board. Jim Irsay comes to mind. Remember Marge Scott?

Too bad for the Clips, who were just beginning to really compete after so long being mired in mediocrity.
 
For the sake of the players and fans of the team, i hope it doesnt affect them at all. an owners personal comments shouldn't determine the outcome of a teams season, at least in this case

hope nothing gets taken away from the players because of his comments
 
I think it's sad that this is getting such traction in the media, an obvious distraction from real matters in our nation. But I guess when our president feels the need to comment on it then everyone must create a mountain of a mole hole. How old is this owner? He's like 70 years old or something, he come from a different culture. I know my grandpa would probably say the same things, and let's be real, he never called the blacks by a negative or derogative name he simply just stated that he doesn't want his girlfriend/ mistress to be seen in public and talk to them?? Now before everyone gets negative I too agree that this is not a nice thing to say, but my god we as a society are a bunch of freaking babies that get our feeling hurt at the drop of a pen. And trust me I've heard blacks talk way more garbage about the whitey, cracker, opie race that I come from, but the difference is I have a thick skin and don't go crying to mamma every time someone don't like me or look at me the wrong way.
I got my ass beat by 5 blacks in high school in Oceanside, Ca because I wore red nike's to school for basketball practice, some of whom were my own teammates, you know what I did? I wore them again the next week, the very first day I was able to go back to school, told them to all go F off !!. Point is their is only a race issue because they want there to be one.
And there is only an issue with this owner because they choose to be offended instead of laughing him off like the old mental midget of a billionaire he is.

One more thing, isn't it a federal crime to record a person without hhis/her knowledge? ..Obama certainly didn't care to mention that! Just like all the illegal immigrants that are blatantly breaking a law that's a federal crime every day but get to get away with it because it fits an agenda while me mr. Whitey gets the book thrown at him for not having my dog on a leash.

Rant over, and please don't go crying to mamma if I offended you, I have to much going on to worry about hurting someone's feelings.

I am living in a real world. I am just happened to be a sport fan and a Clippers fan. I have a family, a real job, and a business.

On the other hand, I am not talking "right" or "wrong" on the comments. I am talking about the distraction which the Clippers got spanked by 21 points.

What I meant is old guys, regardless of color, have a different view based on their world they grew up in. I know racists of every color lol. I just laugh at them and tell them the same thing. Old people are smart but stubborn. Everyone of all races should have just considered the source and blew it off as the rantings of an old white guy.

yeah there are a few super ironic things about this story ...

1) he was picking on Magic Johnson of all people
2) he was days away from being presented a lifetime achievement award from the NAACP (which goes a long way highlight some possible integrity issues with that organization)
3) the woman he was talking to is 50% from the same ethnicity as the guys he was complaining about.

1) no its not a Federal Crime but it is a state crime in California

2) Obama didn't mention the crime aspect because there was no federal crime. Also I'm sure he feels validated since he has experienced tons of hostility unlike another president to date.

3) if one subtracts the soothing racism of your last comment and extracts a) lots of illegal immigrants break the law every day and b) average citizens get thrown in jail for stupid crimes that aren't even crimes in the eyes of many people then YES that sucks. But try to sound a little less like someone who has a beef with minorities.


4) it sucks you got your ass kicked in Oceanside ... its still pretty sketchy, even today.
 
I have a hard time accepting the "he's old, so let him be" argument. There were plenty of people from his time that do not share his sentiment. There are plenty of people that did but they knew it was wrong. And you can't tell me that he hasn't learned anything in the past 60 years. This isn't some backwoods country boy that hasn't ventured off his farm for the past 5 decades.

We are here to learn, adapt, and evolve. If you can't keep up, you bring nothing to the table, imo.

Let's just call it what it is. This guy is a racist and a bigot that has a long history of incidents that were ignored. This one made it to the limelight and now it hit the fan and will drag his team down with him in the short term.

I totally agree - he is racist and a bigot and he surely thinks he is better than everyone else - including us normal white middle class guys. BUT:
While a lot of old people (70+ for this conversation) are not racist a lot of them were, and still are. You gotta remember - These people were well into their 20's when blacks were still not able to eat at the white places or ride in the same bus or almost anything else. I don't know about you guys but by the time I was 20 most of my "ideals" were already formed.
Am I taking up for him? Hell no. He is an ass. I am taking up for some of the guys I still know though who fought and hated the Japanese and the Germans and the Koreans and the Vietnamese and grew up in a world where blacks were 2nd class citizens or worse. Should they change with time? Sure they should. Sometimes though it's hard to change, especially if you were taught something was wrong and it was beat into your head, only to have someone else come along later and tell you it was all just a mistake, a misunderstanding.

I am 51. I grew up in a predominantly black area. My middle school was 25% white, nevermind my state was 96% white. I was the only white guy on the basketball team lol. What did I learn?

I learned that there are dickheads and dumbasses in every race. Stupid is colorblind. Religion is for everyone and no one and politics change daily. I do make exceptions though for age. It's silly to think my 90 year old father in law is going to be as proficient on a computer as my 19 yo son. It's also silly to think they have the same upbringing too.

Bottom line? If you don't like what he said or believes then don't support him. Don't watch the game. Don't wear the shirt. Boycott everything he owns. Remember he is the owner of the team. He is in it just like all other business owners - for the money. Hit him where it hurts because in the end that is all he will understand.
Me? I will keep watching the games. I love basketball and I could care less about some ass spouting his racial views. I will give him the same attention I give Jackson or Sharpton. I believe we are all the same and skin tone does not matter. But that's just me.

I get what you are saying. I grew up in the deep south, at times as the white minority, and my grand parents and most of their children at times fit the mold you describe. Slurs are a part of every day conversation with some of them. But just because that was their experience and they were incapable of thinking on their own and realizing they are wrong, doesn't make it justifiable. There were plenty of people from that same generation that knew better and did what was right. Ignorance, age, habit, etc isn't a good justification for any of them.
