I'd rather have a Ford though, but I will say, the Titan looks better IMO than the Tundra, though the Tundra can look nice jacked up on bigger tires & some other things.

Yup. I bought my Explorer with the intent of driving it into the ground, but it just won't go. Near 8 years later, and all I've done was replace a thermostat/water pump when they went out, and an idler pulley when it started squeaking. It's a beast.

I've always been a firm believer that anyone can get a car to run forever, its all about maintenance. But then I also believe you have to start with something of quality to begin with. I stay away from all things Ford unless they are pre 1970. If I had to buy a large truck now days, Dodge or Toyota for me. Otherwise when it comes to cars and SUV I stay foreign, cars will always be Honda/Acura for me. And as soon as we find a 4runner, no more Jeep. But as you can see from my sig, even I ran that into the dirt... lol

Some of my hate for any other truck, may come from work. But i'll tell you this, every Ford we have at work is a POS and its as simple as that. Anything from our F650 bucket truck to our F350 with a V10. None of them every run like they should, always have CEL's, always in the shop or on the side of the road, interior quality is always lacking/falling apart. Some of this I feel falls in the hands of each of these trucks having multiple drivers, but most of it I feel falls into the product quality itself.

Perfect example:
Our F650 is all Ford, except the motor and tranny. Where do we have issues with that truck. Everything except the motor and tranny. Doors dont open and shut correctly, blinkers stop working, dash lights flicker, CEL lights always on even though the motor isn't throwing a CEL, Hazards only work if the parking lights are on, the horn stopped working so the SRS light came on untill we wired an aftermarket horn. So many piddly annoying issues I could shoot myself somedays. This truck is always in our shop, many times with Ford to try and figure things out and nothing is ever solved. If it didn't run on a Cummins motor and Allison tranny the only other place for that thing would be is literally, Found On Road Dead.

My brother has always swore by Fords, and I know from talking with numerous people that use their trucks for heavy work, that Fords are tough and relatively dependable; BUT, from personal experience over the last few years, I've found their non-maintenance related items can be VERY questionable. My brother had a '00 F-250 diesel, and it had numerous problems with the interior--door switches always failed, column stalks fell apart, nearly everything that went through the steering column malfunctioned at one time or another (shifter, wipers, ignition switch, etc.). Plus, he constantly had starting problems with it, including factory-installed glow plugs repeatedly failing. He traded this for a newer Ranger, and the doors stick shut, the door switches screw up, the ignition switch malfunctions. At work, our Ford diesel also had starting issues like my brother's 250. We also have a newer Ranger at work, and the ignition switch malfunctions, the shifter is sloppy, the trans takes forever to reverse directions, etc. These are all newer trucks, with reasonably low miles. Sure makes me think if I ever buy a "domestic" truck, I'll be looking at Dodge first. The Ford may get the job done, but the interior is where you live with it, and I have NOT been impressed with that part.

If i heard right, then $33k for a new crew cab power stroke is a good deal, the cummins starts at $37 and thats with a 2 door.

My 2004 F150 has 149K miles on it, and I've had to replace the driver's side mirror and a blinker light.

That's it.

Oh, and brake pads/rotors 2 times, and tires. And gas, and oil.

Yep, Fords are crap.

All three of my Fords from 1990 through 1996 (Bronco, Bronco II, Explorer) are still running. All have their issues, but they are still quite a joy to drive, but maybe not as much as in years past. My uncle had a Taurus that he put two transmissions in, but it gave him 378,XXX miles before getting totaled.

Is the build quality that of my 3rd gen 4runner? No, not even close. But I would not expect them to be.

when I lived in KC, I had 10 friends that worked at the ford plant, out of them 10, only one owned a ford, and it took wyane 2 years to buy one, long story short, he made ford buy it back due to all the problems he had.

My mom and dad had a 95 Mercury Villager minivan shuttling around my brother and I. The minivan was a Nissan and Ford joint venture. Engine and transmission by Nissan and Ford everything else. Engine and transmission is fine even though it ran with a cloth stuck in its air intake for months. My dad was wondering why it didn't run right. Everything that did went wrong was made by Ford. The electronic locks, ignition assembly, a recall for exhaust fumes gaining access to the cabin area, and stupid brakes. Other than that, it ran fine. Its still used today and actually has less problem than my truely 1st car, a 96 Infiniti G20. My dad also had an 80s Ford Escort, total piece of crap. We had it when i really young, all i can remember was opening a shaken up soda in there and blasted it everywhere in that car.

That said, I like the BOSS 302 Mustang and the Raptor. Those cars, however, I wouldn't car about how unreliable it is. I would buy one just for their badass looks and fun factor.

That always has been the downfall of the domestics--once they get the drivetrain taken care of, they cheap out on the other stuff. The vehicle keeps running, but you hate to drive it because of all the broken crap like switches, levers, stalks, window parts, etc.. I've had numerous old Hondas and Toyotas, and the interior stuff still worked and felt great--they do it right.

I'd say that's about right. My 99 Runner with 341k runs like brand new, while my 97 Chevy Z71 with 231k runs great, most of the electrical stuff doesn't work, at least the windows do though. A/C only blows on high, power mirrors don't work. It has a factory defroster on the rear window, but no switch as indicated in the owners manual. I'm wondering if the PO switched out the dash bezel and didn't bother to put the switch back.

I've had several 88' Thunderbird Turbocoupes and i have to say there are awesome cars. My present one only has about 106K but my other two had over 250K and they still ran great when I sold them. The interiors hold up really well and the cast iron 2.3l block and head are bulletproof.
