Trailer Purchase - Out of State

Hello,

Have a question for everyone. I am looking at a teardrop trailer (Timberleaf Trailers), which is built in Colorado.

I live in PA. I am curious how I would go about being able to get a plate to bring the trailer home, and get it registered and inspected. In speaking with the owner of the company he said that he will provide me with a Certificate of Origin and a Bill of Sale.

What do I do with these? PA has a series of forms, and I've never purchased a trailer, so I'm sorta at a loss.

Do I take these documents to a local DMV prior to going, they give me a plate with a temp sticker, and I'm golden?

Can someone please explain to this novice how this works?

I wouldn't even bother with it. If your home state requires registration (it may not, if the trailer is small enough) then worry about that when you get the trailer home. If you get hassled along the way about it (you won't), produce the bill of sale and explain you're on the way home.

PA requires registration and I "believe" inspection.
 
Then if you call your DMV or whatever and let them know what you're doing they'll probably issue you a temp tag to put on the trailer until you get it down there for inspection.

But again, I wouldn't bother with that. In the unlikely event that an officer pulls you over for no trailer tags, the recent bill of sale should resolve the issue.
 
Might be worth a call to DMV and ask what is required to pass inspection. Then make sure your new trailer will pass before making the trip. Who knows, maybe something weird PA requires that a builder in CO may not think of/add to their trailer. I doubt it, but just to be sure...

Also, they can tell you exactly what you'll need to take to inspection, then what ti bring to the DMV for licensing.

As stated, I wouldn't worry about temp tags, as dated bill of sale and a simple explanation should be sufficient if an officer pulls you over (not likely, but not impossible). But, you could ask about that and a temp tag in the call as well.
 
You'll have to call your state government to be sure (free internet advice is worth what you pay for it), but most likely you won't need anything to drag it home. Most states don't require trailer tags anyway.

Once you get home just take it to an inspection station with your forms to get your tag. Most states give you a certain length of time between the purchase and paying the fees, from 7-days to 60-days.
