my new DD..........

I have been learning alot over at r3vlimited.com so I thought I would share my post and whatnot over here. Enjoy.

1988 325 auto

Gonna leave the 4Runner at the house as much as possible and I will be driving this. She has 142k and I picked it up from a co-worker of my brothers. He was in some financial trouble, he drove this for 3 years and the auto tranny died. He sold it to me for $200. She runs like a sewing machine. She needed some TLC, a new muffler and for my sanity i am putting on a new TB, WP, tensioner, front main seal, valve cover gasket, thermostat and a fresh tuneup. Lucky for me my dad had a tranny out of a 91' 325i auto out of a wrecked car laying around. While tranny was out I did the rear main seal. Got a bit more work to do but she will be a nice DD.

enjoy!

Unfortunately with an 88' She has diving boards. But don't worry, gonna make a mess, drill a hole in the bumper shocks and fully compress them and weld up the hole. Known in the E30 world as a bumper tuck. Definately has the makings of a really great DD.

Got these pics online to show as an example.

Hoping to pick up a set of used Euroweaves or Basketweaves for my street wheels then eventually save up for Azenis to put on the stock bottlecaps for auto-x.

Something along the lines of this:

Well I forgot newspapers to fully mask it off but I got the hard job out of the way.

And I went ahead and tried out the duplicolor vinyl/carpet spray and used it on the rear tray, came out great!

Oh and I installed a used rear window today, my first time attempt. Went smoothly, the locking strip was a bit of a pita but it was pretty easy...

Got some things put back together. Goal is two weekends from now having it back on the road.

Bumper Tuck completed, my shop was slam full with all the stuff from my classroom in my shop, they are waxing the floors!

Sorry for pic quality, good ole Blackberry camera...

Enjoy, discuss!

This might annoy some of you guys, but I figured I would show you all some pics in sequence of my painting the interior parts with the Duplicolor fabric/vinyl paint. The last pic doesn't show up because of my shop lights but they are fully covered and look factory and brand new....

Passenger Side Door panel

rear Passenger panel (thru three coats, I forgot to take pics on the last two coats)

Got a bit more finished up on the car today. Here is the final look of the door panel, I painted the armrest and door pocket the dark gray color, not quite sure if I like it but worst case I can just paint it black.

I only remembered to take one photo at the end of one can, I used two cans put the passenger side carpet is now black.

The best find of the day, I was going thru my stash of BMW parts my dad dropped off to me, I have boxes and boxes to go thru, the best one he dropped off to me was this:

From the tag mounted on the spoiler is says: BMW Heckspoiler Type 196038

as luck would have it I was planning on eventually looking for one of these, and I have the old decklid to make a template from.

Cool that your doing that all yourself. Is a car like that quick? I personally love the look of those old BMW's especially when lowered, with a nice paint job and some sick wheels.

wow you're doing a lot of work on that beemer. my brother has a 91 325is that i loved to drive when it was still in decent condition. great torque from the i6 and handling was amazing esp on 14" wheels. i also really like the boxy design before the new 3 series got a face lift. only problem is that reliability was crap for the generation and expensive to maintain.

well I have probobally somewhere around 600 bucks sunk into it now. Anything to keep some mileage of DD duties of the T4R. Handles very nicely, I think the performance is much better than any 4cyl econobox out there right now and the looks are much better than anything like that as well. I like the euro syling very much. I want some 15" rims and to lower it on H&R street springs and kyb or bilstein shocks depending on budget. This will also pull duty as an autox car....................I have an 86 320i that was used as a parts car for my brother that has everything I need to perform a 5spd swap during the winter, that should help up the fun factor a bit!
