Anyone here into r/c trucks? I've built a couple in the past, but nothing too serious. I built a USA 1 back in the day and still have it. However, I'm getting ready to get into some gas powered trucks, just not sure how or where to start. I don't really want a rtr, I'd rather build it from the ground up and learn as I go.

Any r/c guys here? Any suggestions?

Go electric, Screw nitro, LI-PO batterys last long and combined with brushless motors are faster than Nitro. I have 2 nitro's and i would much rather a Brushless Truck.

Get a Traxxas brushless Revo.

Really? That surprises me a lot. Would u build from the ground up or get a kit? What's a ballpark figure for getting started?

I grew up building a few electric cars and racing them, a couple years ago I got the itch again and bought a Revo 3.3 rtr. That thing is fast!

The amount of times I have to replace parts it satisfied my itch of actually building it.

I got a lot into the R/C boats. In my experience go electric, nitro is nothing but trouble and fuss. With my electric I can drop it in the water and go. Electric is just so much simpler.

I would build up, but it definetley more money, but there is a company that makes warrentied for life parts out in CA, i will post up there name when i remember it.

Yeah, electric is faster, brushless motors have unlimited torque, only limited buy the battery.

I have been into RC stuff for a while now. I still have my nitro Revo minus the motor (was thinking of converting to brushless). Wasn't ever really into building cars for a track setting/racing. I have been into more the scale build stuff and competitive style crawlers. I've got about 5 or 6 different vehicles, in various state of "ongoing build"

I was into RC Gas Trucks a few years ago. I ran the HPI Savage models...I still have 2 of them and can run them just about anytime. They always fire up. They sound like weed eaters from hell!!! They only had 2 speed transmissions when I ran them, now they have 3 speeds....My truck got up to around 40 mph right out of the box. Easily get it up to 50-55 now. They need tuning and maintence, but once you get the hang of it there is only a high speed and low speed adjustment - Pretty easy after you mess with it a bit. Check out HPI's website and see if any hobby stores around you carry that brand. Have fun and be prepared to spend $$$$ - I've probably spent wayyyyyyy too much, enough to buy a real vehicle or motorcycle

i used to be really into the rc world. we used to run them in the shopping mall after hours alot of fun. we would make some bootleg looking race courses.
i had a t-max that i installed a waaco airplane engine the thing was fast.

I justg bough one of these, I get it tuesday. Can't freakin wait!!

I have my Revo 3.3 for about 8 years now which I bought for $800 then, I gotta tell ya man, both the nitro for my RC and and the gas for my 4Runner sucks in price.. I can only run one or the other.

How much is rc fuel where you live?

I used to run RC trucks remember Black Foot, Clod Buster. About 9 years ago I bought a gas truck and a car can't remember the name of them, nothing fancy open the box and add gas. Man those things were fast! My 12 year old son wanted to get a RC truck. For the life of me I can't find my old gas ones. Must of trashed them in one of the moves. So we hit the hobby shop. To my surprise the guy told us that battery RC are faster then the gas. I could not believe it! Man the battery RC came a long way. Being this is my sons first RC truck we got a starter one. All we had to do is just charge the battery. He enjoys it. I found my old charger and a few battery's they still work. He does not get a lot of run time out of the older ones. I was thinking about buying one and building it. The prices have went up that's for sure, his was 150.00 not bad at all. The one I liked for everything I would need it was just under 1K. I'm not sure if that's going to happen. 1K that's about a month of groceries. I think I will use my sons when he's not running it.

I've got an older rc10t that's way too fast, and a berg crawler.

I have been racing R/C for a while now. I started out racing in the Production Monster Truck class with the original 2.5 Revo. After running that with an OS .18TZ for a while the brushless Revo was released and i switched over to electric. The nitro couldn't come close to the electric. Mine in yellow...




That class died a few years back so i was really only racing in the Short Course class. Now i am racing in the Open Pro2 Short Course, Open Pro4 Short Course, Mod Stadium turck and Open 4WD buggy. It is an absolute blast. I was also custom painting bodies for a while but haven't been able to paint as much lately. Here are some i have painted. These are all painted, no decals.
