ok if you guys can understand what i wnat to do... it shall be SWEET!

i have see guys tapping into their dome lights and puting footwell lights in well tats what i want to do but in the mean time i woul like to wire up a whole new electrical system

new fuse, 1toggle switch, 2blue led lights (12V), and not sure what size wires to use...

and i am tapping into the dome lights and puting some white light in for when i open my door the footwells light up! how cool!

i think this project should be cool when finished

if anyone has any instruction on how to take the center consol apart so i can put in 1 toggle stitch i would like to look at!

i will take some pictures and show how it goes together and eventualy comes out in about a month! so hope it goes smoothly!

Couple years back I wired 2 blue neon rods under the dash by the kick panels for some nite-time-mood-FX

From what I remember - I wired them to a switch - but I've seen others wire 'em up to the headlight switch also.

Sounds awesome, I wish I knew how to wire stuff.

ok guys this is what i did... and in the process of doing...


for thr past few days my 4runner has been torn to pices... headliner,seats,interior body panels. and so on...

ive been wiring up over 30 feet of wire, 2 toggle switches, 4 lights (2 white and 2 green, maybe blue)

its been a real job but last night i got er done by working over 4 hours strait on it. but i still ahve the green lights to put on... need to go pick then up from the store 2day

i mounted the toggle switch on the empty place for where a button would go on the left hand side of the steering wheel and hucked up the power wire the the dome light up top... i tried to hook it up the the door. so it woul;d turn on when the door turns of but it didnt sems to work that way.

pictures will be in prob by 2 night if i can finish putiong the geenies in an/d wiring it all up.... if anyone would like to do the same thin i lill walk u through step by step.

hey did you ever get pics to this? im pretty decent at wiring thing so if anyone needs help i can prob walk you through it...ive done alot of neon kits and stereos in tons of diff cars...hookin to dome is tricky due to...each door trigger is a bit different...but basically the car is a negative grounding car....that being said when you open a door its grounding out the switch not supplying power....so you need to find seperate power supply for the lights and hook ground to doors...if that makes sense? if not hit me up

Kind of but i need help with this. How would I wire a relay to turn accessory lights on when any door opens and also turn on whenever i flip a switch?

Use a dual postion swich with accessory power running to one pole of the switch and dome light power running to the other pole of the switch. Then the common pole of the switch is wired to the coil on the relay. The lights would receive power directly from the battery only with the relay closed. The relay would be opened or closed by the switch in the accessory power position (closed), off position (open), or dome power position (closed). I have a very similar setup on the reverse lights I just installed. You would just need to splice into a wire that powers an accessory and a wire that powers a dome light. I'm working on a wiring diagram for my setup that should help you. It's nice to have the wiring diagrams too so you can trace back to convenient splice points.

Hey sorry for asking about this when its a really old thread but I really wana do this mod. Ill be honest and say I basically no nothing about the electrical work in cars and am a real novice at this stuff. My goal is to put leds in my footwells and have them turn on when I open the doors. From what I have read, I should tap into the dome light for the power supply and also the dome ground wire? Is this correct cuz I'm a bit confused? If its ok then how can I find these wires and what is the best way to tap into them? Thanks a ton.

I got this cool thing when I was in elementary school that has all these terminals and stuff, and a book that tells you how to wire up these cool circuits and how they work. It had everything, transformers, piezos, photo cells, resistors, capacitors, LEDs, you name it. I wish I knew what the name of it was, it was the best tool for learning how to wire stuff. The only thing it didn't teach me is switches, I self taught myself that after trial and error with model train transformers going to buildings and such. Wiring is my least favorite thing to do, but definitely the thing that I've had to use the most in my life, even more-so than carpentry!
