i got a 2002 runner 4wd 3.7l v6, was driving home and started to chug. got home tried to drive this morning lost all power and cut off. turned it off and was able to get it home. it sat for a couple hours while i started to research. everything was leaning towards a clogged fuel filter. so i replaced it. when started it back up after filter change it is blowing white smoke and still having same problems. it has 165k and never had this problem before. any help would be awesome as i am lost... thank you
White "smoke" out the tailpipe...likely a blown head gasket. Common enough. Less common would be a cracked block or head. You've got coolant making it's way into the combustion chamber. Best if you not try to run the engine until it gets fixed.
White = steam.

If you smell coolant through the vents that means it is leaking externally in the engine bay. Leaking internally the coolant either mixes with the oil (milky film in the oil on the underside of the oil cap) or in the combustion chamber (white smoke out the exhaust).
