I test drove a new 2007 4runner yesterday and the dealer allowed me to take it home for the night. It's a 4wd v-8 sr5. About 5 minutes after cutting the engine off I heard a loud metallic pop. This sound repeated itself about 5 minutes later. It was loud enough that I thought something had fallen over in my garage. It sounds like the suspensiong popping after you let a vehicle down off a jack but it's coming from the bottom of the engine compartment. After the engine cools the sound stops. It was not the normal heat related noises a vehicle makes after the engine is cut off. I would drive the vehicle long enough to heat it back up and it would do it everytime I have a 2006 Tundra DC with the same engine and I never heard anything remotely like it. Anyone have an idea. I have not purchased it yet!
