Would be awesome if it rained a little for you, nothing better than a desert day in the rain

Few guys from work and I did a run a few weeks ago, it was 100+ but cooled off quite a bit as the sun went down.
4 hi was all we needed as the sand was a little "floaty" in 2wd.
Route:
Sept 9, 2018 Desert Run
Font's Point to Pumpkin Patch via Short Wash -> Fault Wash -> Cut Across Trail -> Bank Wash Road -> East Bank Wash Road -> (unnamed road on Gia) -> Pumpkin Patch Trail
Exited the park via Pumpkin Patch Trail -> (unnamed Road on Gia) -> Last Right on Unnamed road on Gia -> Shell Reef Expressway
It was hot but the various "pick your own trails" out near the Pumpkin patch were a lot of fun. We played out there quite a bit and just picked different lines based on difficulty.
As it cools off we need to plan a t4r.org socal run, maybe SD folks. Those 30+ driver runs seem to take hours for prep, talk, rig drooling etc, and I just want to hit the sand/dirt asap.
At the Park Visitors Center. Of course I was the first one there.
Font's Point View
Stopped for kid snacks and water in some wash along the way and I ran out to snap this pic.

I'm new to the area and have been looking at Anza Borrego. I was kicking around the idea of going out this weekend with my 2 year old.. looks like the temps have come down significantly.
You guys take your kids out there?

Yea I have a 8 and 4 year old. I might go Sunday. I wanted to go last Monday but I ended up working instead. I typically go to the southern part around fish creek.

I’ve been taking my boy out there since he started walking, he’s almost 5 now. If you do go out there follow the golden rule and don’t wheel alone

That’s rad! You guys camp out there or just do day trips? I’m up for this Sunday if you are heading out there.

Last 2 times for me were just day trips from San Diego. Its about a 2 hour ish drive to the Visitors center on the West Side and from there you can head out. It's a big place.
I have 2 kids as well and bring them all the time. One of them loves bringing the RC car/truck he has and jumping it off the sand and rocks.
Camping can be fun when the temps and wind cooperate.
I usually don't wheel solo, but friends with rigs don't always have the same schedule.
Anyone have one of these for emergencies and 2 way satellite texting?

I was thinking about getting one for those times where I want to head out and no one is available.

The last few times we stayed at a house in Borrego Springs that my neighbor owns. I usually wheel with my brother who lives up in 29 palms. If I end up going I will let you know. Kids are not always up to it and my wife would be pissed if left for the whole day.

yeah Looks like it may be windy this weekend. Boo. I have see similar units to that on different "rig walk around" on Youtube. never in person. I'm surprised they are so inexpensive. Seems like another good safety net.

Yeah, it's tough to get away. I've got my 2 year old that I would be dragging along with. He is super active so all day in the Truck is not the best thing. I usually try and break it up. Drive out during a nap, camp night before let him run around in the morning and then do a bit of driving/exploring, eat snack run around and then nap on the drive back... it's a game changer with the kids.
Weather looks a bit dicy. windy on Saturday and Thunderstoms Sunday eve.

I have a hall pass Sunday. Anyone up to some moderate trails? Leave SD 7ish. I’m in Carlsbad.

What I’ve done in the past is start on the south end of S2 and run Canyon Sin Nombre to Vallecito Wash to Arroyo Seco to Diablo drop off to Fish Creek. From there connect to the 78.
I would like to run Sandstone Canyon which is off Fish Creek.
