01 Glacier Metallic Build

Hi everyone.

My name is Charlie. Last summer Aug 2022, I flew to DC to pick up a 4Runner I found on Cars.com. It's a 2001 4Runner SR5 in Glacier Metallic with oak leather interior and at the time, it had a little under 67,000 miles on it. Dealer selling price was right around $16,500 for it.

Currently, it has 72,000 miles on it. After a lot of deliberation on what to do with this truck, considering it's low mileage and pristine all original condition, I decided to modify it to my liking since it will be daily driven.

A few months back, I tried to upload photos of this truck to this forum but was unable to because I hadn't yet reached the minimum post requirement. So I should be able to soon! I'd like to keep track of my progress on the truck here, get advice and even make friends.

I'm located in Lexington, KY. I also have a long travel 1995 Tacoma. CharlieTaco on TacomaWorld if you want to see it.

For the past year of owning it, I've dealt with warped rotors and decided the absolute first thing I would do to this truck is the Tundra brake upgrade. Yesterday, I finally acquired the last of the parts needed so I will post some before after pictures after getting this done.

The parts list is as follows:
Toyota OEM Tundra rotors
Toyota OEM Tundra pads and shims
Powerstop (OEM Toyota) reman. calipers powdercoated black
AdventureTaco stainless front brake lines in gray
Toytec stainless rear extended brake lines (black only)

You can always upload photos to Flickr or some other photo hosting if you can't on here, then you can embed it into the thread. Most people use other sites to host since this site is pretty slow. Excited to see some pics of it, though! Sounds like you got a unicorn. Cool to hear you're going to daily it too, gotta drive these things instead of letting them sit forever

I've never used Flickr or anything of that sort before and don't really want to fool with it. I figured I'd just wait until they allow me to post. But then I got caught up with work and there wasn't any update on the truck anyway, so there was nothing to post. Also, I daily the 95 Tacoma. I bought the 4Runner to be my wife's daily but she hasn't moved here yet so it mostly sits and I drive once or twice per week.

And I do feel like I got a unicorn for sure. This one is better than most of the 4Runners I see on BAT fetching close to $30k. But I don't think this color is for everyone.

Going to try to upload some photos!

Here are some photos I took on the drive home from VA to KY. West Virginia mountains.

October 2022 after a wash and getting my specialty plate.

Pictures don't do this color justice and the high compression just makes it worse.

Here are the Tundra brake parts awaiting install. The powdercoated calipers are nice. I'm glad I spent the extra money. I think most are unaware that Powerstop also does these reman calipers in black. That, or they are just opting for the sports car red.

These will get installed at some point next month.

I have a long list of things I want to do to this truck - all of which are expensive, so we will see if/when it happens. My Tacoma is in more need of money currently.

Finally got around to getting the Tundra brakes installed - four months after accumulating all the parts needed. Truck has a little less than 74k miles on it currently. Also had tires balanced and rotated and bled the fluid. The rotors were warped before this and slightest braking would cause a wobble and more moderate braking would cause the vehicle to swerve a little and if the brakes are hot, even more dramatic. Very smooth and it's such a dramatic difference. Am I the only person on here with a totally stock 4Runner and Tundra brakes being the ONLY modification? Here's the before and after pics.
