03 V8 vs. 08 V8 tranny question

Ok, clear this up for me:

I gotta 03 V8 Sport Edition... Well maintained...every 15k i had the recommended service done and the tranny was flushed and filled.

I gotta 08 V8 Sport Edition bought with 42k on it. No service history, so i brought it into my dealership and had the fluids checked. The differentials and transfer case needed changing, as did the power steering fluid. Brake fluid was recently bled, so its new. Coolant was good too.

I asked about the tranny, they said it was an enclosed unit, didnt need changing til 100k.

Did Toyota change the trannys? Am i missing something? Are they screwin with me?

I had mine changed at 60K and it looked like it was time to be changed. If you do any city driving (i.e. stop and go) IMHO I would change it sooner. I have an '05 Sport/V8.

Yes, it's technically sealed trans now (no more dip stick). In 2004 they switched to the long lasting 100k mile WS fluid (more fuel efficient and longer lasting). But like the previous poster said, I'd still get it changed anyway at 50 or 60k.

Yes even though the ATF is supposedly good for 100,000 miles I would strongly recommend changing it before that. Like say somewhere around 60,000 or so.

WS fluid is not magic as far as I'm concerned.

I change all my Toyota trans oil every 50k. Cheap insurance IMO.

I just called 3 local dealerships withing 10 miles of each other out here...
