06 4runner trany problem?

Good day,
I wanted to see if any of your V8 Runners do this or should I be heading to the dealer.

I bought a 2006 4runner brand new in March. Ever since I got it, occasionally when I'm stopped at stop lights after getting of a high speed street or after running with out stopping for a while, my truck does something really strange with the transmission.
As I have just stopped it feels like if the gear box drops gears and I feel a clunk when this happens.
I don't know for sure if its the trany but it feels like it.
Do your Runners do this or should I consider seriously taking it to the dealer?
I would really appreciate the info.

yeah do a search for driveshaft clunk and you should find some threads on this. lubing the grease fittings seems to help a bit but doesn't totally cure it.

this is a known issue with the slip joint binding up. make sure you have it lubed on your next oil change. your tranny is fine. if you do a search you'll find lots of info on this. Lexus has just released a service bulletin for this on the gx470 but it does not apply to toyota. learn to live with it until toyota releases TSB for 4runner.

Greasing the slip joint helps some of us, but not all, so lube all Zerk fittings and live with it if it does not go away.

My 96 use to due something like that for a long while, I just think its the nature of the beast. Dont loose any sleep over it yotas are almost bullet proof.:)

Another cure is to change your driving, actually stopping, method. Stop short and then release the binding affect by easing off the brakes to crawl slightly ahead. Then come to a full stop.

Hi guys, thanks for the info, it was very helpful. At least It makes me feel better. After spending 5k in trany and difs and 4 weeks in the shop, with my Range Rover, you might understand my concern.
I apologize for the repeated post, I just did not knew it was a common thing for the runner.
Thanks again.

First time I felt this there was a car directly behind me and I would have put a bet on it that he hit my brand spanking new vehicle. Got out and found nothing!

The poor driver behind you probably had no idea why a fuming guy in a 4runner was yelling at him!:p

jrc_bar - what do you do to have such a nice selection of toys? That's a lot of cars/trucks!

Personally I'd get rid of the 996 and the Targa for a C4 964 Coupe with a 3.8 ;):
