08 v6 at salvage auction - looks perfect - what's up?

Just curious if people with experience in auto salvage auctions can satisfy some personal 4runner curiosity - why is this 08 up for bid at a salvage auction when it appears to be in perfect condition? Anyone know how that stuff works?

I was told that in Arizona if a car is stolen and missing for more than 30 days regardless of whether or not there is any damage the vehicle is branded salvaged.

Don´t know if it is the case with this one though.

According to the link it does not have a salvage title. It says clean title with $0.00 repair needed. But it is the v6 2wd. low miles!

vehicles can go to auction for any number of reasons.

its a crapshoot. you might get a diamond, or a chunk of coal...

we see a LOT of auction rigs come through the shop, MOST are garbage, and shouldnt be back on the road. but, the people are happy, because they got a good "deal". nevermind, the front suspension components are twisted like a pretzel, and it wears out a set of tires in 6 months...atleast it was cheap.

It appears to be the most basic of stripped models. It also could have been a rental vehicle.

A friend of mine got clobbered buying an auction BMW for cheap. Looked good until he looked underneath. It had traveled a ways on top of a guard rail or something. Everything under the car was trashed. Well mostly nice and smooth under there.

There are a lot of salvage titled vehicles for sale here on Craigslist. They can be a good deal if they are cheap and in decent shape but you should inspect them thoroughly to make sure they haven't been wrecked and rebuilt or in a flood. I bought a motorcycle with a salvage title and it was just like new except for a little road rash on one side of the fairing. The only problem is to get a standard title you have to take it to an inspection station and have it physically inspected which costs $50 then they will give you a normal title when it's registered.
