I'm not laughing. That's just his asking price, which isn't far fetched. It's a first gen that hasn't been hacked up with a myriad of supplements like crawler boxes, lift kits, and sawzall body work. The slim remaining minority of ones that are like this are a hot commodity. The trail beater era for these trucks is dying out and people actually want to enjoy them the way people enjoyed them when they were purchased new.

If it was a rare model turbo maybe but not a standard model for that price

Well to nit pick a little... it's got a chrome front bumper mismatched with a painted grill. Lots of extra holes in the bumper as well. That runner never came from the factory with the inclometer either, since it was a plain jane model and it wasn't available in 1989. The rear seat headrests are missing.

Gotta love the super low miles, but for $15,000.00 it should be perfect. I agree that the non-abused ones seem to be bringing the best prices.:faint2:
 
It doesn't have aluminium trims in the windshield and in the wheel archs. Did Toyota made a model that way?
 
I actually met with the guy this morning. He is very knowledgeable about automotive. The truck does have some discrepancies but it is very clean. It's not $15,000 worthy but I can easily see it going for over 10 and maybe in five years to be a little more.

very nice condition, even if there are some minor changes from original.

it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay.


it appears to be missing the front headrests, too. but the seats appear to be in superb condition. not sure that the grille is painted, could be faded chrome. the altimeter might not be original, but it is period-correct and appears to be from a 4runner (as opposed to tercel).
 
My dad's old DLX 1989 had dark gray bumpers and the light gray grille. The one in the add has a dark gray rear bumper, so that makes sense that the front one has been changed to chrome at some point and has the original grille.

If it came with a chrome front bumper it would have had to have had the "chrome package", which includes chrome front and rear bumper, door handles, wheel moldings and front windshield chrome molding. Unless he painted the chrome and left the front bumper chrome.

To bad he wouldn't spend the money and return it back to the condition it came in... it would probably sell better and for more $$$.
 
How about my !987 4Runner

I have a 1987 4Runner, 268K mi. All original, 22RE, 4x4, manual, very clean interior. All electrical work. It's my daily driver. Starts every morning in one click even in the dead of winter and runs perfect. Never off-roaded and its top was never removed in its entire 30 yr life. Few dings near the tail lights. A little rust on the fender lip but no rust on the frame.
I am thinking of selling it. What do you think is the fair asking price?

Nice looking runner. Is that color called metallic brown? I always liked that color, very unique . I don't know what it would sell for in your neck of the woods but it looks to be in above average shape. GLWS.
 
That's some real collectors items!

I'm shopping for second gen, not that clean but maybe something someone has taken good care of and did all the maintenance that I can't do.

I see 91's for $2500 but you know that needs to go right in the shop and have a bunch of work done, preventative maintenance.

That's a buying strategy though, buy low and put in the money right away.

Or I'm seeing some for $4-6k that's more turn key ready to go.

Shopping is hard.

There is one in my area that is $6700, but it is m.i.n.t. Limited with Manual, all maintenance, etc. I wouldn't say it is worth that, but its nice. Come down to the south, plenty of cheap runners!
