You think that looks right as rain I think it looks completely inaccurate let's see which one of us is right.

the V6 4L engine is a little weak for this vehicle. needs more torque.

the V8 engine like 5L would be a good improvement for those that load her up on long trips.

my GM truck 1500 2000 model 175K miles gets 18MPG 5.3L engine. good power does not down shift going up grades @65MPH on the hyway but my 2016 T4R does [same road] . it is annoying at times esp. with cruise control on.

Actually Toyota will most likely be moving to turbos in the near future, they've already started with the NX series on the Lexus side. Most likely that engine will trickle down to the Toyota side within 5 years.

It's not so much that the 2GR-FE is too weak for the 5th gen as much as Toyota has programmed the vehicle's drivertrain to be more "Eco" in terms of performance. The 4th gens use an older version of the 2GR-FE that is fairly peppy in those vehicles, its mainly how the engine and transmission is tuned for the 5th gens. The same issue is present with the new 3rd Gen Tacomas running the new 2GR-FKS 3.5L V6, the engine itself makes good power but the 6spd transmission is programmed poorly in terms of effectively transmitting that power; lots of downshifts and funky hunting in some sections of the power band/vehicle speeds.

The 2UZ-FE 4.7L V8 that I have in my 4th gen is plenty powerful, the new 1UR-FE 4.6L V8 is a bit more powerful and works well in the GX460 platform.

Bottom line, unfortunately the engines make plenty of power; it's just that Toyota has decided that the vehicles need to be more "Eco" and conform to CAFE Standards and emissions standards and so they tune it for that more than performance. It doesn't help that Toyota's ECM programming seems to be some sort of mythical fortress that the aftermarket has been unable to effectively crack (which to me is very surprising) and so performance upgrades for these vehicles are sorely lacking... :(

Hey pal, I didn't make a comment I asked a question! Furthermore, I don't really care if the information is accurate. I imagine, the '16 TRDPRO will be fine; and I may not ever get rid of it.

any idea why toyota has all that filtration material in the air box . seems to be restrictive .

You can get the 3rd gen Tacoma in a manual, unlike the 4runner. Would that eliminate the power issues you referenced in your post with the 3rd gen tacoma and 5th gen 4runner? I am assuming this is an issue with Auto transmissions since they rely on the ECU.

Also, the fact there is no aftermarket ECU sounds like you need to start the startup for it :) :pizza::lightsaber::car:

Would depend on how complimentary the gearing in the manual is to the engine power band. I haven't played with enough manual 3rd Gen Tacomas to have solid answer on that.

Toyota owns Lexus, which has a V8 in the GX 460. The GX is the 4Runner's rich sibling (same frame, suspension, drivetrain, etc.).

If the rumors of the GX discontinuation are true then it's possible that the V8 will trickle down to a luxury trim 4R, but highly doubtful.

Back on topic, that site is nothing more than a collection of rumors. No real information. The first response nailed it: click bait.

We have several dealers who participate here. If something like a V8 were to show up, they'd be the first to know.

Oh I know, I meant for the 4Runner in NAM only. If I meant all of Toyota, would be a stupid comment considering the Tundra and Sequoia and Land Cruisers (J200) all have V8's in North America without even having to look at a Lexus/GX.
 
Spoke to several dealers as I am considering a Limited 4R, and all I've spoke to say 'no dice'. CAFE standards will never allow for it based on the info I've gathered...I'd like a V8 as well, but can't justify $9k more for a GX just because I want the V8.

First off , you came after me for saying it was click bait , I only answered the question . That looked "right at rain"to you, now that u are proven wrong your not man enough to admit your wrong and like any child you say I don't care now anyways then I noticed your from pa so I realize what grade level your working at so I'll move along.
