170K Maintenance Questions

My son is taking his 2005 V8 back east from CA for a couple of years (grad school) and I want to get it in top shape from work I can do here plus a independent Toyota mechanic around here I trust.

It's been mostly a CA car but spent a couple of years in the Midwest.

Timing belt and other work was done around 75-80K miles.

Other than the owner's manual is there a good list on the forum somewhere of maintenance items for higher mileage 'Runners?

I want to do the easy stuff and have the mechanic do the hard stuff.

Thanks.

I bought my ‘05 V8 with 180K on it and immediately did the water pump, timing belt, drive belts, power streaming fluid and rear main seals. I would recommend doing the rear diff fluid change (if it’s only a 2wd) I would also personally do the radiator hoses, make sure cabin and air filters are good, tires are in good shape, etc. mainly just the essentials. From the research I’ve done, these engines are apparently bullet proof. You shouldn’t have much to worry about. Just the basics.

On a side note, I’m now at 192K in 8 months and have never had an issue with it whatsoever.

For sure do all the fluid changes and you may want to replace the wiper blades, you know how bad the CA sun and heat is. I hear Silicon wiper blades are the best. Good luck.
