17x 9...please don't shoot!!!!

Hey guys....I know, I know.."did you search the forum first?!?!" I did, briefly but am under a time crunch. I used to have this info in my head but with years comes worsening CRS syndrome. My wife has 2016 SR5 4wd. I'd like to get her new wheels for Xmas: Gear Overdrive 17x 9 bolt pattern 6 x 139.7 BS 5.375 10mm offset. 2 questions:
1-does this work with stock suspension?
2-do these work with stock tires (265-70-17) until we get her new rubber?

With that width and offset, you're putting yourself at risk of moderate rubbing.

I have 8" wheels, 10mm offset and I get rubbing from stock size tires (BFG AT/KO2). I would highly suggest finding an 8" wide wheel and if you decide to get wider tires later, I would stick with 0 offset. If you maintain stock size tires, 10mm offset is probably okay although you'll have to do the fender mod.

That's a lot of backspace. I don't know if that'll clear the UCA. The factory Trail 7 1/2" wide wheels have 4.875" BS IIRC, so I wouldn't suggest anything with more than that. 9" wide wheels should be fine with 265's, but that backspace scares me away from the.

Look at the last sticky on the front of the 5gen forum page titled mods, write ups, FAQ's. The first 2 threads are the 5th gen tire fitment guide and changing tire size or wheels. Perhaps those will help.

Too much backspacing...

You want 4.75 - 4.0" of backspacing. 4.5-4.1 is about ideal. 8" wide rim is what you most likely want.

The high backspace might cause rubbing on th UCA, as mentioned.

However, I have 17x8s with 4" BS wrapped in 285s. So, these actually stick out further than your 17x9 combo will. With trimming the front bunper / liner and removing the mud flap, they don't rub.

If you stick to stock tire size and are willing to tinker with the plastic stuff a bit, they shouldn't rub in the front or rear. Just peruse the big wheel and tire thread to see if it will clear the UCA.

If you are lucky, you might get somebody with a Trail to measure the distance between the back of the tire and the suspension components.

17x9 will fit stock size p- rated tires, but it will not fit stock size LT-rated tires. 265/70/17 LT tires fit a max width of 8.5. Found that out the hard way.

only thing i'd suggest like i read above is going with 0 offset or -6 offset. i have -12 offset on mine.
