1987 4Runner compatibility

What are the years of compatibility for my 1987 4Runner?

Seats
Dash
Console
Pretty much, all interior

I am still working on the exterior through the middle of Feb., should be ready to tackle the interior after that. I just surpassed 320,000 miles and other than minor issues my 4Runner is the best all-around vehicle I have owned.

WOW !! 320,000 miles! Is this a 22r 4-cylinder engine or the 3VZE 6-cylinder? Any type of engine overhaul other than normal upkeep like water pump, etc? My 4R has 182,000 on it and I'd love to see it last past the 300,000 mark. I have the 3.0 V6 and the headgaskets were done on the recall notice when the engine had approximately 35,000 miles on it ( previous owner ).

I don't mean to hijack this thread. I don't know much about compatibility for 1st gens. I just got a lil carried away by the mileage claim.

Save for color and center consols, the interiors between a truck and a 4runner were the same. The passenger brackets under the seat were also different, due to the 4runner's need to slide. The years to look for are 84-89 4runner and 84-88 pickup. These are known as first gen 4runners and second gen pickups. The dashes were identical. Im sad, my first 4runner only made it 230,000 before it blew something up. 22RE.

Thanks for the reply. What would you suggest for seats to buy or look for? I have heard alot about Honda seats being compatible. Is this a myth? I also wondered about any Toyota cars (ie. Celica, Supra) of relative year models. Sorry to hear you lost your first 22RE @ 230,000 miles. I am sold on this engine.

Yeah, it was a shame, but it is on a stand in my garage for some stupid project in the future. It is still rebuildable, so I'll hang on to it. A shifter cart with a 22RE and a 5spd anyone? It isnt so much compatability with the Honda seats, it is more that they are cheap and relativly comfortable. If you take the tracks and seats out of a car that is a 2 door, then they will slide and everything, or you could get new seats and leave your tracks on the floor and adapt them together. I run seats out of an Eclipse GSX, leather buckets. Look for seats out of an Eclipse GSR or GSX, or an Integra GSR. They almost all came with leather buckets, and they have the wings on the side which are very handy for keeping you in the seat when things get hairy on the trail. My new truck is the same exact thing, an 86 4runner with a 22RE and no other options. this one only has 135,000 so I should be good to go.
