1988 4Runner Possible Purchase!

So, I have possibly found another diamond in the rough...

1988 SR5 V6 Auto for $2800 with 170,000 miles. I can't look at it for about 2 weeks, so if it's still for sale, I will go and look at it. My plan is to also buy a 3rd gen 4Runner with a good 3.4 and swap it into the '88. I also need to get an R150f and driveshafts, crossmembers, chutch system, ad other crap. I would then sell the 170,000 mile 3.slow and auto for a decent price and I could make money by parting out the 3rd gen. I would then "restore" the '88 and have my dream truck! Also, my plan for paint is medium blue (like my dad's old truck) in monstaliner.

I figure that if it is in decent shape and still there in 2 weeks, then it was meant to be, and I'll buy it!

I like everything in your plan except the Monstaliner. If it's your dream vehicle it deserves a decent paint job. Monstaliner holds on to red clay dirt, which I assume you have in TN, and requires scrubbing to clean.

Another member on here got his painted at Maaco and it looks good. I also found an on line paint shop if you're doing it yourself. The color, 8D47, is metallic and that isn't going to come through in Monstaliner. I would imagine a custom tint liner cost more than cheap auto paint anyway. IMO bed liner has it's use when you're resigned to driving a beater. Just my opinion and for selfish reasons I want to see another blue metallic 4Runner. :)

I've seen some really nice monstalined 4Runners here lately and they don't look like clay would stick if it's sprayed on correctly. I've seen white, tan, and red ones.

This guy did his for around $350

I don't give a hoot what u do wit it, I'm just thrilled you're getting back into a 1st Gen! And who says today's youth don't have their priorities straight. Go Chuckles!!!

So the guy has had several people call, but no one has actually looked at it yet. I'm actually going to go this Sunday and look at it if it doesn't sell first.

He says it just needs paint, carpet, AC work, and misc. interior bits. No rust at all!
