1990 4runner auto transmission overheating

1990 v6 auto transmission is overheating. Never used to, it is something new. Identical load, temperature, weather, traffic on the same route. Used to be fine, now it will overheat and not cool down while driving.

With that said, 3-4 weeks following this, the transmission died. It has since been replaced,/rebuilt HOWEVER, the temperature is still a problem since the fix. I am confident the temperature caused the initial transmission to die. What could be causing this? Faulty radiator? I do not have an external oil cooler, does anyone know if these 4runners can have one installed? If so, where?

I would certainly start by installing an aftermarket tranny cooler.
It's always a good idea whether you have overheating problems or not, and especially if you do any towing.

My 99 Sr5 Just started doing the same with, with an aftermarket transmission cooler. Is this just a problem 3rd gen's are known for?
