Hi

New member here!

Found a lhd, auto 4 Runner SR5 V6 (main Toyota salesman said he's not sure if it's '91 / '92 /'93/94 model but said most likely '92) which looks interesting. Good tyres . Very tidy interior but just sun damaged paint.

Rust holes over rear, left door window but otherwise body looks good. Speedometer says 79000 miles.Oil level is good. Belts look new. Battery was flat & has not driven for 2 weeks, according to salesman.

Going to take it for a drive next week.

Would any kind soul have any advice?

Are the engines reliable?

What common faults should I look for? (electrics / sensors / engine / auto box / Air Conditioning etc. If I recall it has three 4wd selectors?

Sorry I could not discribe it better but was in a hurry and the salesman was hustling me!

Price is US$2900 but negotiable! (Cars in the Caribbean are expensive due to the tax!)

Many thanks.

The VIN plate on the drivers door jamb will tell you what year it was made.
(A good salesman would know that.)

The V6 was prone to head gasket problems (many were repaired under a sevice bulletin), and there is a service bulletin to replace the steering relay rod.

Check and use all the power equipment and HVAC stuff. The V6 is a little more cramped under the hood but if taken care of seem to last just as long as the 22R-E 4 cyls.

battery flat and hasn't been driven for two weeks means its been in an auction lot for 3 months.. just saying, make sure they refresh all the fluids and don't hesitate to take it to a mechanic who you trust, better to spend some money to find out you don't want it than get burned. Good Luck!
