1993 4runner wont run??

i own a 1993 toyota 4runner with the 3.0 v6 automatic. it has 211,000 miles and when i first bought it, it had a problem with after a few minutes of driving it would hesitate really bad to accelerate. so i assumed to give it a tune up. so far i have replaced plugs,wires,cap,rotor, fuel filter and valve cover gasket. it helped a little but the problem was still there. it progressively got worse and last night i had to tow it home. it will start but either idle at like 200 rpm and fluctuate, or completely die. as soon as you give it even a little gas, the trucks bogs and spits until it dies. i have done a compression and vacuum test and both read fine. oh and the check engine light is not on.

So for the motor to run, you need fuel, air, and spark - and then you need timing and compression. Just go down the list.

I'd start with fuel - the next time it stumbles and dies, leave it sit just like that (don't try and start it) and crack the fuel line at the engine side of the fuel filter. If a little gas sprays out, you've got fuel pressure there and can move on. But any time I've had a truck stumble low and then die when I give it gas, it's been a fuel issue, so check that first.

thanks for the reply, my though too was that i either have a failing fuel pump or the strainer is clogged so today im pulling the tank. i figure if it does need a new pump that im going to just give the fuel system an overhaul like an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and new flamethrower injectors.
