1995 4runner sr5 limited. mystery part "a

So i bought this, today i went wheeling and the awd would not engage. We found the problem but the part is a mystery Imgur this comes from the awd selector, over the axel / transfer case and down then back to the transfer case where it selects the gear.

Ontop and bottom it has connection points for a picot action, the bottom is just a post with a ball head set into a cup, around it is suppose to be 2 half bearings and a dust boot but they are beyond gone.

Is this custom? If not wtf is it? What bearings do i need? The "originals" were galf circles with a se.i ball shape receiving innard.

I was gonna flame you for writing a damn near incomprehensible post, but since I was wondering where that same strange doomahickey came from in my long stalled project (nearing completion YAY!) and you gave me that picture,
Ima gonna let it slide.

Its not custom ( ie somebodys weird addition to the truck) , Toyota put it there.
