1997 steering gear movement

My"new" ride has a defined desire to pull to whatever way country road bevels off to,I had my son move steering wheel back/forth slowly and I noticed the big bushing on steering gear let it move about 1/8 inch back/ forth,is that normal?other than that whole front end seems tight?

I am seem to have a simialar problem. ALso a distinct creaking when turning is maxed, bumps at slow speed, or stopping quickly at slow speed. ANy other input would be highly appreciated.
I had someone turn the wheel to max while i was under to see if i could identify the problem and i noticed the steering gear would "twitch" so to speak.

Search steering rack bushing replacement. It's a super annoying 20 fix that should solve your problem.

OP, can you upload a picture of where the movement is? This sounds like it might be the steering slip joint
