1998 4runner transmission slips

My girlfriend has a 1998 4runner with the 2.7L 4 cylinder with the automatic. When taking off from a stop if you are a incline it will roll back some before it will take off. It shifts great in all the other gears, is this a major expensive fix, or is something that doesn't cost more than a 280,000 mile 1998 4runner is worth? Thanks

When was the fluid changed last? Have you properly checked the fluid level (is it low)?

If the fluid hasn't been changed recently, you could try that.

If the fluid is in good shape and is at the correct level, there really isn't much else you can do. A used transmission is always an option if money is tight.

You can also try a bottle of lucas which won't fix it but may buy you some time.

A fluid change is in the plans, as far as we know it's never been changed. The fluid is discolored a little bit, but it doesn't smell burnt. Other than that it has no real problems besides the aftermarket alarm that's on it that can be a pain at times.

I've seen more than one slipping and/or non/delayed shifting transmission get completely working properly with a trans fluid Flush, you know done at a shop with that type of machine.

I know many say not to full change or flush it, but it has worked in my experience. It's either going to help or help death arrive sooner, may as well find out. Luck. :cowboy:
