1998 stalling while idle

I purchased a 1998 4runner limited at 128k in June. 3 and a half weeks ago, while idled in traffic for a reasonable amount of time, the car threw a check engine light and shut off. It started right back up and I got home with no further issues. I was idled in traffic for 3 hours about two weeks ago after a wreck happened on the highway I was on, the battery light came on and it almost stalled out...I revved for a while to keep it going and eventually got home. My alternator had never been replaced and was putting out a low charge as I figured. I got it replaced last week by a local repair shop (a shop that has seemed to be very fair and honest with me so far). Two days ago, the truck idled out on me at a stop light. I was idling rough at the light before the one I stalled out at. Today, the mechanics took a look at the throttle body and saw that it was pretty dirty. They cleaned it up and suggested putting a fuel cleaner in my gas tank. I have only driven it around town today and have not stalled out. Has anyone experienced these issues? I should note that 3 and a half weeks ago was the first time that it stalled on me. They didn't seem to think that any vacuum hoses or my MAF was at fault for the issue. I would also like to note that this is my first vehicle, so I am really new to all of this stuff.

If it was a vacuum leak problem would more and likely not come and go
If it starts doing it again clean your iac valve, good luck with it ,

Fuel treatment - Startron

I'd run some fuel treatment through it, always. Look for your favorite brand. Could be Seafoam, Startron and many others out there. Personally I run Startron because it is simply more cost effective. I find 12 oz bottles at wallymart for $9 and that treats 512 gallons. I run it on All my engines from 25cc to quads to BMW, Porsche and of course my favorite buddy, my TR4.

My engine also started with a brief shudder only when cold upon initial drive off. Once i put this in my tank, literally within 1 day that symptom went and stayed away. That's enough to tell me it works. Read up on it here, it does a lot of stuff: Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment

Luck and
