1999 Ltd Totaled - HELP!!

My son was hit while driving my truck. It was hit head on at the rear passenger side tire. The impact moved the entire rear axel about two inches to the right leading me to believe the frame is bent. The other driver's insurance adjuster is coming this week to look at it but I was warned it would probably be totaled.

I have lots of accessories ARB front number, heavy duty read number, costum made roof rack new OEM coils and shock.

I would like to get another 4Runner and transfer these accessories but I need to know what year(s) 4Runner have the same platform so I can transfer my accessories. PLEASE HELP by listing years of comparably THANKS

I would also be interested in a Tacoma understanding the roof rack won't fit.

I would just make sure to document lots of pictures of what was on the vehicle.

Your best bet may be to try and claim all the parts individually. You won't get to keep to parts of course but you can keep the cash.

Some insurance companies will allow you to "buy" the vehicle back when it's totaled out for a low cost. All they're going to do is part it out and sell for scrap to recoup what they can.

I agree with the above. My '96 got hit in the exact same spot. Totaled of course. I kept the truck and insurance still gave me a very decent check. Was able to track down a '98 in a few weeks and transfer everything over -

Not a question of allowing you to buy it, it is YOURS to decide if you'll keep it or not. That is the law. Not up to the insurance company. The salvage value is often determined by them or a 3rd party though, that may or may not work against you.

I would get a quote with and without all of the aftermarket parts. As you said some custom parts... So if you are wanting to keep them then ask the adjuster how much if you were to take off certain parts. Or take the parts off before the adjuster comes to look at it. But make sure you do not let them take the truck before you get the check... Something i have always been wary of... Make sure you have money in hand before they are allowed to tow it away.

My wife's 96 got T-Boned. I bought it back for something like 250 dollars and got a check for 3200. And it had 267,000 miles on it.

I found a 97 limited and swapped over everything but the new exhaust I put on it.

No. And neither are the springs/shocks. Tacomas utilize a leaf sprung rear with an "eye" mounted shock. 4Runners are coil sprung with a "stud" mounted shock. The front stuff will work, however.

If you're a handy guy I would part it out. Then engine/trans alone can bring a pretty penny. The leather seats that I assume you had will sell nicely as well. Then all the small stuff people on the forum need... It'll add up quick.

Just replace the frame tell the insurance adjuster. I'd the repair cost $12k to repair.myhe insurance adjuster gives money for your loss to prevent high cost of repair. I had the same issue the repair cost $11k I did not wanted the money for my truck I want repair and replace frame and everything.
It's legal because is my truck.

Insurance Policy Matters

Unlike "old" cars (collector vehicles) it's tough to get good insurance coverage on our T4R's that will replace the cost we've put into the vehicle. KBB or similar value is pretty much what the adjuster will go with. I used to have just liability and coverage for an uninsured motorist but have recently gone back to collision and comprehensive along with "Agreed on Value Policy" with Safeco.

You need to list all of the mods and upgrades you've done and for about $250 a year your coverage will actually match the value of the vehicle as it sits. Something to consider...
