1st gen rear seat brackets??

So my 88 DLX came with some rear seats but no strikers or center brackets. Since I bought it I was on the hunt for the brackets I needed. I stumbled upon these on ebay a little while ago and jumped at the chance to buy them for a pretty reasonable price.

The strikers fit and work and the center bracket lines up with the four bolt holes in the center but are totally incompatible with my seats. They have two bolts to attach to each seat where my seats just have a single hole for a peg/hinge to go into. I can't even find a pic matching what I would need.

Were there two different types of seats/seat brackets for the 88? Seems strange they would do something like that.

Not sure if they are the same but they kinda look like the ones for my 2nd gen

Those look like the factory brackets.

I had aftermarket seats with the aftermarket hinge missing.

I just took a factory bracket and drilled into my aftermarket seat frames.

Interesting, were aftermarket seats a common thing with these trucks? I was considering doing the same thing as you but I wasn't sure if it would work then I'd be left with two seats with extra holes in them. Do you happen to have a pic of your setup?

My seats are pretty basic looking. Split folding bench with velour (gross) in the middle and vinyl on the sides. My front seats are aftermarket so I don't have any fabric to compare them to.

There are some 2nd gen seats floating around various places. They look a lot nicer and I've heard they can be made to fit. What's an appropriate value for a decent set of those?

Apologies for all the questions, wish I could just locate the one missing hinge.

those brackets are the correct stock brackets. a percentage of the 1st gen 4runners didn't have rear seats from the factory, and instead had a steel panel covering that area, effectively extending the cargo bed to just behind the front seats. mine was a rear seat delete runner, but i added the rear seats. for the factory delete runners, rear seats could be a dealer-added option, too, and might not be the same as "factory stock".

From what I've heard, the aftermarket seats are pretty common since there were some import tariffs for importing the truck with the rear seats, or something like that. It was often cheaper to bring it in without the seats and have them installed at the dealer. At least that's my understanding of it.

They never had headrests.
