VW Turbo-Diesel 4Runner project
Hey whats up,
I'm a highschool student building my own 1986 4Runner project, taking out the old 1986 gas motor, putting a 1989 vw turbo-diesel motor which im completely re-building. Putting a 1985 transmission in it, using an ACME Adpters adapter plate to unite the motor and transmission. The body of the 4Runner is rough, and im missing a rear tailgate. i am new to the forum, and im wondering what you guys think of the project, and any possible ideas for me. I am also wondering if any of you guys know any way of creating your own SAS and can maybe tell me what i could do, and also lift ideas. also what can i do to create my own tailgate? or maybe do you have any leads to a tailgate?

Yeah, I don't think T4ROTY is gonna work out for me and Tyrone! That's okay though, there is some tough (and well deserving) competition on there!
I think I speak for everyone on the board though when I say that everyones 4ROTY is the one sitting in your driveway!

I thought I'd contribute to this thread. My 4Runner has ever so slightly changed since this photo was taken.
My brothers' 1990 4Runner is on the left and my '85 is on the right. Both are 22RE + 5SPD.
Location looks awfully familiar, I know i've been up there though.

Given that you live in N. Van, I'm sure you've been up there. We were on a FSR up in the Brandywine Valley; between Squamish and Whistler. We originally headed up there to go hiking/camp but the trails were still snowed in; so we decided to test out the 4Runners (both just got them) on some FSR's instead. Great area; can't wait to go up there again next year!

First pic is how it was when I got it, Second is after a bit of clean up!
All suggestions for next steps are wanted! Here's what i've got planned so far.
1. Removable top will be black
2. About the bottom 8" of the whole bottom of the rig will be rhino lined
3. Powdercoated black rims.
Thoughts?
