Here is my 1986 4Runner on its way home in AZ this past December after I bought it in Sacramento.

Saggy rear springs. I didn't know how bad until I loaded it up for its first camping trip. :crybaby:

For a $100 go for it. at the worst you can have your old one rebuilt while you limp along on the used one.

I have so many questions already...

If anyone is reading, my A340F Transmission will only operate in Reverse, all the forward gears are non responsive, I can get some slight forward movement out of the truck when tapping lightly on the accelerator - I suppose as the motor / trans go past a certain RPM there is some friction

Currently doing research on how to manual shift test the tranny

I have the opportunity to buy a used A340F transmission and transfer case for $100 - I'm wondering if it's just worth throwing in the truck to see what happens?

Manual swap is obviously on the list, I just want to be able to drive it for now.

Thoughts?

My 1988 SR5 V6. Just picked this up about a month ago. It's my second 88 4Runner. I had one exactly like this one when I was 19 with a Trailmaster lift and 36" Dick Cepek Fun Country radials. My parents sold it out from under me when I joined the Marines and I swore I would always get another one some day. Well, life happens and the dream of getting another 1st generation 4Runner had to sit on the back burner for a while, but 24 years later I had the opportunity to purchase one just like the one I had to let go of all those years ago. It was a one owner vehicle that had a lot of sentimental value to the family I bought it from. It was passed down from the grandfather to the daughter and then to each of her kids. Tears were shed when the keys were passed over. When I climbed into the seat it cradled me like an old friend. I couldn't remember the last time I had driven a stickshift but that clutch felt so familiar it was like I had been driving my old 4Runner all these years.

It's been a little neglected but everything but the center console lid and the rear wiper are there and everything works. After replacing the valve cover gaskets and the PVC valve the 3.0 with its 211xxx miles runs smooth and quiet. Also did brakes, alignment and put some 31" BF Goodrich TA/KO2's on. Next on the list is new rear leafs to straighten out the thrust angle thats off by almost 0.5 degrees due to some off road damage. A little body work and paint and it'll turn some heads for sure.

Here's how it looked the day I brought it home.
