I actually own two runners, a '90 and now i own '87

you cant see the 90 because its behind my boat i built.. haha

I want to lift the '87 runner. and get better tires for it

Parts advice, please: I'm breathing new life into a 1989 1st Gen V-6 model and need the following: Side window rubber seals & the L-shaped metal trim on each side?... Graphics?... Rubber/vinyl floor material formed to replace the carpet?... Chrome fender well trim?... Toyota & 4WD mud flaps?... where can I find replacements for my "new" 1989? __

heres my 86't4r i just got today...paid a whooping $1800 for it....it has a new long block with paper work...specs are .030 over and it says its been stroked to 2.7 liters.has an auto tranny,but is very peppy.yes the running boards and mudflaps and some other pieces are going in the attic.the green carpet will be one of the first things gone.any ways here it is....thats my grand cherokee in the 2nd to last pic....5.2,auto lockers f/r pretty badass,but the runner is replacing it.bottom 3 pics are as it sits now.....lots more to come

Just posted in the new members forum, but couldn't hurt to post here, too!
Living in Arizona, I get to see all kinds of sweet 1st gen 4runners, and I love it.
I haven't done much at all to this one yet, but as time and money allow, I'm planning on doing everything from fender flares to a rebuild of the 22re (currently rocking 202k).
This forum gives me all kinds of inspiration!

You can start by not spamming a picture thread. Read around on the forums, there is a guy who recreates the graphics, places that sell the vinyl floors etc.

I guess i will share. I traded for this 85 a couple weeks ago. Come to find out the frame and body were a little more rusty than i imagined. The 22re was rebuilt about 10k miles ago and it has lock rites front and rear. When trying to buy a IFS rear, IFS box and IFS hubs from a guy i found out the runner he was parting was rust free so im picking it up this weekend. It has been hit in the front and will need the frame tweaked and all my front end from the cowl forward as well as all my interior and motor trans and t case. Hopefully ill have enough posts soon so i can post the build. The plans go as followed...

Immediate plans:
SAS swap on the 86
Add front innerfenders and body from 85
Swap dash and interior
Swap engine, trans, and t case also install new clutch and input shaft bearing on trans
Install 85 rear springs up front
TG crossover steering
Axle Armor Ect
63in Chevy rears
Twin Stick

Future plans:
35in tires of some kind
Double Cases
5.29 gears
Paint Cream with black graphics
Try not to beat the body to death


I want to build a nice DD 4runner that will be dependable and that i can wheel a little. I have a Samurai DD now that is a real shit box so i want something nice. I have stretched Samurai to do heavy wheeling with when its done. Now for the pictures

My 4Runner has been in my family longer than we've been a family!

New to the site, not to 4Runners. I've had this for 27 years. I was a young airman and bought from a used car dealership in Fort Walton Beach, Florida in 1990. I traded an 89 Camaro with 11k miles on it for this. I fell in love with the 4Runner in 1985, after a friend who owned an autobody shop in Salem, Oregon, picked me up for senior skip day at Mt. Bachelor.
