I would change all the fluids, It will give you and idea how it may have been maintained, and give you a starting point going forward,
look over belts and hoses.
That's surface stuff, and will take some time. Plus it will get your hands on stuff. you'll see loose or broken things that need attention.

Just waiting for new license plates, and center caps for the rear wheels.

yours doesn't have the aluminum/chromne trims in the windshield. Do you have info about the rubber gasket?

I just got myself an 87 sr5 last week

I was pulling the stock spare when I realized I hadn't taken a picture of it yet. No jack, but the lowering rod was still there. Come to find the stock sized spare was touching the exhaust and burning the spare. I can't imagine it came from the factory like that, so someone must have modified the exhaust, I'm guessing. I'm starting to find the red flags.

When I had it repainted, the windshield had to come out to fix the rust that was under it. I told the windshield guy what I wanted and he did it when he replaced the windshield. I don't have any more info than that, but I'm assuming it was a pretty standard gasket material. Looks awesome too.

I didn't think about making the bolting holes there, that's a good idea, the roof rack arms don't afect the hard roof fitting. Cool! Thank you!

the '88 beater

that i picked up in february didn't pass inspection. not a big deal, it has plenty of parts for what i paid.

this happened yesterday:

another '87 sr5, 22re, 5-speed. this one has a moon roof, cruise, and uncommon factory chrome wheels. grey interior, manual windows (a plus), re-arched rear springs, auto hubs (not a plus). 239k miles. from what i've inspected, it appears to be almost entirely original. not a beater like the '88, and very much on par with my red '87 daily driver.

Shame about the '88, but that '87 is CLEAN! Got any interior pics? Looks like the only rust is at the back of the rear arches? Nice truck.

Just bought this 100% stock 1986 SR5 from the original owner. It’s been garaged kept since new and he gave me all of its records including all the original license plates, all 3 keys with dealer key chain and stacks of records from service done at a Toyota only. No paint work either!

checked the spare wheel under the "new" runner; it is also a chrome spoke factory wheel.

ordered some maintenance parts for it today: pcv valve, hose, and vent hose, power steering pump shaft seal, valve cover gasket and half-moons, cap, rotor, plugs, and wires (oem toyota), oil pump gasket, idler arm, fuel pressure gauge mounting banjo adapter, and clutch master cylinder.
