In 1991 in CA it had a salvage title...then in 2000 in UT it had a rebuilt/rebuildable title, Then in 2001 and since it has been titled in VA as a rebuilt/rebuildable title. Does anybody have experience with that being listed on a title?
Salvage means it was tore up beyond repair and declared a total loss according to the vehicle history report....makes me a little concerned. In 91 it was only 5 years old so still relatively new so for it to be totalled.....

I'd be willing to guess that it was in a pretty significant front-end collision, which is why they did the swap. They state they changed the fenders out for OEM ones due to rust, but the hood looks relatively new as well as the grille and bumper.

I can only speak for Utah, but here, a salvage title just means that an insurance company has declared it a total loss, meaning that they believe it'd cost more to repair than the vehicle is worth. With what it costs to get a body shop to work on a vehicle, that doesn't take a lot of damage, especially when you're talking about a truck that only books at around $2500 to begin with.
If you repair a salvage title vehicle to a certain standard, you can get the salvage brand removed from the title, and it gets a rebuilt title instead. The process is a PITA and requires several inspections by a trained DMV officer who knows what he's looking at in order to get it. If a truck has a rebuilt title from Utah (and probably other states), it means that somebody who knew what they were doing put some time and effort into bringing back a totalled truck, and it's probably done right.
If you're really interested in the truck, I wouldn't let a rebuilt title scare you away. It won't matter with a truck that old anyway.

As I eluded to earlier...I was kicking the idea around in my head. I opted to pass on the 4runner and it did not sell on ebay or craigslist when the prior owner had it listed. I talked him in to putting the drivetrain in to an 84-88 4x4 extended cab pickup because I allready have a 4runner and really needed a 4x4 truck.
so here she is, the third toyota in my driveway, 87 4x4 ex cab 5L (3.0 liter) 5spd turbo diesel...sorry for the crappy pictures I will get better ones when I get done doing a few things in the garage.

I've only driven it around my neighborhood. I don't have it tagged or insured yet because I am fixing a few issues with the truck first. It had a broken wheel stud on one of the front wheels, I've fixed that and it got new brake pads while I was at it, the door locks were so worn out the key wouldn't operate the lock, I put in new door locks on both sides, both lower door hinges were wobbly (like really bad) I've got the passenger door shutting like brand new now. (I did lower and upper while I had the door off) I am waiting on the drivers door hinges to come in....I am going to change the front and rear diff fluid, and the transfer case fluid too. The previous owner changed the trans fluid. I am going to put a good straight bumper on it too. It's black, not chrome like the current one but it should look ok.

does this truck have a front skid plate from the factory?

Yup. Bolts under the front crossmember and beneath the a-arm towers, if I remember right. If you're going to wheel it, build your own though, or get a Budbuilt. The stock skid is tin foil.
