My name is Andy Scates. I am 23 years old and a native of Boiling Springs, NC, but now I live in Lebanon, IL. I am an alumnus of Gardner-Webb University and I work as a graphic designer in Illinois and I work at a brewery on the weekends.
I recently purchased a 2003 Toyota 4runner SR5. This is the first vehicle that I've owned that has not been a GM. The 4runner is a two-owner car and has 121,000 miles on it. The exterior is excellent condition, except for a couple door dings. The gray leather interior is in very good shape as well. The previous owner had an aftermarket DVD player installed where the overhead light was. The only modification to the exterior is the aluminum 20" wheels and the Cooper tires.
I don't know much about these vehicles but I'm hoping to learn a lot from you veterans. My 4runner has "street" look to it, but I'm wanting to make it a little more off-road worthy because I love the outdoors and camping. The 4runner is now my daily driver...so I can't go too extreme. :flame:
The first vehicle I learn to drive was a 1989 GMC K1500. My grandfather bought it new and when he passed away he gave it to my father and then it was passed down to me. It was repainted its original two-tonw colors with a spray-in bed liner. I installed 2007 17" GMC wheels with 265/70r17 Yokohama tires. Last year I had to replace the original 350 with a 355 crate motor. My GMC also has Hooker headers that run into a custom Flowmaster dual exhaust.
This 355 was original going to be dropped in my 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham, but the Cutlass turned into a money pit and I decided to save my truck.
The first vehicle I purchased was my 1990 Chevrolet 454SS. I bought with 83,000 miles on it. It also has a fresh coat of paint. I lowered it with a 3/4 Belltech lowering kit and added a larger Belltech front sway-bar and installed a Bellteck rear sway-bar. I rebuilt the 7.4L engine last Christmas and it is now bored .30 over. It has Edelbrock heads, intake and headers, a Comp camshaft and I removed the smog pump. I also designed a custom 3" Magnaflow exhaust system with high-flow cats, x-pipe, 7" round stainless steel mufflers and 3.5" stainless steel tips.
