2/1 Cornfed Lift Installed (finally)

Thanks. It was funny, today when I picked up my girlfriend from work at her dental office, one of the doctors that has a Mercedes was like "Nice truck, it's nice man." So it's getting noticed a lot so far.

I noticed in your signature you have a color keyed grill. How much was that from the stealership?

I think it was about 180-200. I ordered from my local dealer . To me I love the look so much better than the smoked chrome. I hate that stuff and am not a bling guy , but the smoke chrome always looks dirty , yellowish , ect.... I love the color keyed grill ! Install was 30 min from start to finish , just take your time so you don't scratch anything.

How do you feel your ride is compared to stock in the front & rear ??

What type of tires are you setting your eye's on ?

Falls... I am going to become your T4R acountabilibuddy. When are you going to order your kit?

BTW, josh, i feel the same thing. I get VERY used to the look as stock, until i actually see another t4r.

I'll probably change mine to black soon then. I just don't like how it's the only chrome on my truck. The handles and the area above the rear hatch handle are both black, so it seems more logical to have the grill match it all.

I'm planning on getting 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers. I love the look, and should provide a nice aggressive looking tire, with great all around traction. I was also thinking about BFG AT KO's but decided to go with the Nitto's.

Whenever I park next to another 4th gen I walk to the front and take a nice long look an admire my work. Feels good :D

I've been going snowboarding a lot lately. I sent my dad some pictures of the last time I went up and when I called him, he was happy for and told me to splurge and have fun in life while I still can. That made my decision for me... when my tax rebate comes... I'm getting the lift 2/1 lift. Hopefully I can still get in my ride without the running boards, haha (I'm 5'7'')!

Well i'm only about 5'9" and I don't use my running boards to get in unless it's raining and I don't want to get my pant leg dirty. The only reason I don't take them off is because I like the extra protection they give from rock chips. Since mine is black, that's a big issue for me. Also, no offense, but I think taking them off makes it look like a Durango. Maybe i'll like the look after I get my 265/70/17 Nitto's on. Who knows.

You should definitely take your dad's advice. That's how I look at it. Otherwise I wouldn't be 19 with a truck this nice, and all of these mods already. I have a pretty big list to tackle next too. My goal is to have all of this within the next month or 2.

1. 265/70/17 Nitto's (in another week or two)
2. Color keyed grill, to replace the smoked chrome one.
3. Re-tint my front windows to 20% instead of the 35% I had them do.
4. Volant air intake
5. POSSIBLY a hood deflector but I haven't decided if I like the look yet.

Future:
Black rims, exhaust system, switch my cloth interior to leather, add a sunroof, and i'm sure there will be MUCH more.

My plans eventually are to totally murder it out and go all black. Such as removing the emblems, getting black pearl emblems for the ones that stay, have black windows, black grill, but it all has to wait until I splurge for some nice black rims. Until then, there's no point lol.

Looks great. It will look absolutely sick with black wheels and the Nittos!

Looks great Josh! I can't wait to put a lift and larger more aggresive tires on my 4Runner. I like you're future mod list but seriously wouldn't go with the aftermarket sunroof. The whole roof skin on a 4runner with a factory moon roof is different and I think you'll regret having a hole cut in it, if you decide to.

Yeah. I have tons of time to think it over though. I have many mods with priority over that. I'll probably get the color keyed grill soon, then take a break from mods until I decide to get rims. I've only had my truck around 6 1/2 months, and there's hardly anything left to do. :biggrin2:

The Nitto's are already on in those pictures, so I just need to find some decent black rims.

I've had a very loud rattle from the passenger side for about a month now, and I finally think I figured out what it may be caused from. It turns out that the rattle started 1 or 2 days after we installed my lift. I can't seem to find what it may be though. Anyone have any thoughts on what would rattle loud enough to be heard from inside?

It sounds like the door is shaking, but I think it's too coincidental that it started almost immediately after my lift. Besides, holding the door, or having someone lean against it while driving, doesn't stop the rattling at all. Thanks.

Someone else had the same comlaint after lifting, and if I remember correctly, it turned out to be the sway bar or the sway bar links. If I were you, I'd recheck every bolt that you loosened or removed to install your lift.

Much appreciated I'll check it out after I get some shade here.

Keep us updated! My lift should be comming in the next couple weeks and a rattle is the LAST thing I want.

I just finished checking everything out. There were only 2 or 3 bolts that I could even budge, but I'm glad I found them. As far as the rattle, I didn't find anything such as the sway bar being loose. I doubt the minor torques I made would fix any issues other than potential problems down the road. I didn't bother removing the skid plate to get full access to the sway bar, but nothing felt loose so it most likely would have been a waste of time.

I also poked around the engine compartment where all of my HID stuff is. The ballast that is under the power steering was only held on by twist ties because the double sided tape stopped holding it. I secured it with electrical tape but I'm not so sure that the ballast has the potential to cause a loud enough rattle to be heard inside the truck. What do you guys think?

Could it be something inside the door loose like a speaker or window channel if you hear it in the door.

The sound may sound like it's coming from the door but metal on metal rattle can travel pretty well.

A few question's -

Does it seem worse when driving on smooth or rough roads ?

Full lock turns in either direction ?

Try doing some speed bumps at some different speeds and at different angles so you can see if the suspension flexing is causing this .

I would still drop your skid plate for a quick easy check.

Just a couple thoughts.

Oh and if you would QUIT jumping that truck to test your lift & tire's out everything wouldn't rattle loose ....:D

I tried popping off the door panel but I couldn't find the tabs and didn't want to break/crack it anywhere. Inside the door panel was my very first thought when it started. It's just odd that it started 1-2 days after my lift.

It almost always happens when it's cold. I almost never notice it when it's hot outside. And it does it worse on bumpier roads, such as filled potholes.

It's still there so I guess I'll continue my search, because the dealer will take all day just to locate the damn problem.

And no, no jumping the 4Runner. :bigok:
