You got 4 cylinder or V6?
There are so many ways that the installation can get failed (due to non-OEM head gaskets, incorrect torque, using old head bolts, oil on the gasket/block/cylinderhead,etc., .
So it is unfair to blame the machine shop. A good machine shop will check your cylinder-head at no charge before accepting for the repair.
I did my 4 cylinder (corolla) heads on my own (first timer) and got the head done at a local machine shop. I did 20 K miles already and so far so good. Good gas mileage and better pulling power.
Machine shop charged me $200 to get the head resurfaced, new valve guides, resurface the valves and to install valve seals. They did all other checks before giving it back to me.
Since you have your valves/cams and everything, why you want to spend more on these parts. I saw that site lists a cylinder head for $575. What is the guarantee they use OEM toyota valves/cams and heads?
I think you can get 4runner cylinder head fixed right for like $170 (since it is 3 pistons per side)
Just my thought.

My apologies. It's a V6. I was in a rush and didn't check my typing.
I know it needs heads because the truck is at the Toyota dealer now and a machine shop identified a crack in each head. The bill will be over $6k if I let them use OEM Toyota parts. On a 14 year old truck with 198k miles on it, it doesn't make sense. But, it does make sense to buy re-manufactured heads that can be bolted right in. But I see so many rebuilders out there with tons of complaints against them. I need a quality re-manufacturer. I'm in the Flemington area. I want to make my purchase TODAY so they can be shipped asap, so prompt responses with great info are deeply appreciated. THANK YOU!!!!!

I have a backup truck... a 2000 XTerra with 225k on it... lol! I have other cars too if I HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE... but I prefer NOT to use them as they are "toys". The problem is, is that the truck is at the Toyota dealer and it's sitting inside all apart. I doubt they want it sitting around there for weeks with no movement on it... that's why I'm asking for all opinions as quickly as possible.

$395 ea. plus a core charge... and I couldn't find a good or bad rating on them anywhere. RockAuto.com sells them too. Thoughts???

After much consideration, I decided to go with this company: http://crankshaftsupply.com/cylhead.htm I placed my order and they should be shipping my refurbished heads mid-next week.
They had the best price and seemed to do the best work, including heat-treating the heads. They weren't pushy to sell, and answered all of my questions. The other company I was looking at (https://www.americancylinderheads.com/) seemed just as competent and were ISO rated, but the cost at the end of the day would have been about $250 more.
I couldn't find a negative review anywhere online about either company, which was amazing since every other rebuild company seemed to be littered with bad press. Thanks to the people above for the help and advice.

Btw none of the links you posted are for the same company I linked.
Their name is vague but I don't think the ripoff report links are for the same company.
They do seem to have a BBB of F. Lol that's lame. I'm not actually 100% that the company I linked is where my heads came from. I'll have to check with the mechanic that ordered them. He seemed pretty confidend about it.

I researched them and found lots of negative reviews and an "F" BBB rating. Take a look at the reviews I posted.
