2000 4runner oil leak

I have a 2wd 2000 4runner that has a pretty bad oil leak. Just had the valve covers and half moons replaced but oil is still dripping onto the concrete. I’m thinking it’s the oil pan gasket or hopefully not, the rear main seal. Help would be appreciated on the cost and what it looks like

You had a shop do valve cover gaskets and they didn’t bother to inspect and recommend other leaking seals be replaced?

Remove your skid plates, wash your engine, and then inspect for yourself to find where the leak is coming from.

Is it common for the oil pan fipg to go bad? I’ve read they last pretty long. Yah wash the bottom and see if the leak is coming from the weep hole by the bell of the tranny. If it’s coming from there then it’s the rear main is my guess. Hopefully not doh.

You mentioned you did the half moons. You didn't mentioned you also did the circular cam plugs located on the back on the heads, facing the firewall/bulk head.

Who did the valve cover gaskets for you? They didn't crack a valve cover did they? It wouldn't be the first time...

Oil pan and rear main seal leaks are not commonly mentioned on here. Not to say it couldn't happen though.

I would also check the oil cooler. Leaked on mine before I did the rebuild. Pretty easy to get to and narrows down the list. The seal basically can become solid depending on how long it's been on there. Just another thought.

I had it taken to a shop and they said it’s the front crank seal. I’ve having them replace water pump timing belt all belts for $1200

Have you considered doing it yourself?

It takes a little bit of time, but it's not that difficult, seals included.

It's the difference between $300 and in your case $1200.
